Business: Comics Broke Me And The Dark Side Of The Comic Book Industry

@Drayonis

Bro. I gave up my dream of working "for the majors" I'm my early 20's. Everyone thinks comic book artists are rich. They aren't. The majority make slightly above minimum wage for as many hours as they put in.

I did thedogyears.com partly for just love of the genre, and to blow off steam after a bad divorce. Shit was fun, great way to improve my skills and i did make a crap load of money in online sales of the trade.

Kids today have movies, tv, video games (which is like being in an interactive comic book) to take their attention. The movies have made billions, but it doesn't drive people to comic stores to buy comics.

Then add in .cbr readers (piracy) and people are reading for free.

The industry was bad before, as the story stated- things are worse now.

Luckily for me, I was a business owner from a young age and was able to make a great living. I have a lot of friends who draw for marvel and DC and they struggle to pay rent.
No thanks.
