Sanctions are not working

This isn't Elvira in April?

In the first place, the sanctions imposed against Russia affected the situation in the financial sector, spurred the demand for foreign currencies, and caused fire sales of financial assets, a cash outflow from banks, and surging demand for goods. Furthermore, risks to financial stability increased.

Indeed, our economy is entering a challenging period of structural shifts associated with the sanctions. In the first place, the sanctions have affected the financial market, but now they will start to impact the real economy increasingly more significantly. The main problems will be associated not so much with the sanctions against financial institutions, but rather with the restrictions on imports and logistics in foreign trade and, further on, with possible restrictions on Russian exports.

Currently, this problem might be not as acute because the economy still has inventories, but we can see that the sanctions are being tightened almost every day, including the restrictions on Russian goods transportation and the operation of Russian carriers. However, the period when the economy can get along with stocks is limited.

After western countries imposed sanctions against the Central Bank, we can only use about a half of our reserves, but these are gold and Chinese yuan and they do not enable us to promptly respond to the situation in the domestic market. This is the reason why we introduced capital controls immediately after the sanctions were announced.

You really think Erdogan is the one losing ? ?Overall I believe him and Modi are playing very smart putting their interest first, but it's just my opinion

Erdogan gets what he needed domestically if the F-16s come through. India is too important in Asia for anyone to use a stick on them regarding oil. They need it for growth in the short term but not sure it is in their medium or long term interests to not even give lip service to a reduction.

This is bgol and contrarianism rules the day on here so this is Girkin recently on how Russia missed its opportunity in Ukraine because it ignored an American conspiracy in plain sight

A small remark:

Does everyone remember how just recently the propagandists of all sorts were blowing bubbles from happiness about the fact that USA was running away from Afghanistan with shame? Anyone?

How many were laughing and making triumphant cries about “cowardly Pindos*?” *Russian insult for Americans

I wanted to ask – so? How is it? Still happy?

I was personally writing and saying back then that while the USA are “stuck” in Iraq and Afghanistan we had time and chances to “break” the damned Ukr.

Instead, we got ourselves into Syria, Libya, Equatorial Africa and so on. We began arming Venezuela and Sudan, urgently throwing insane money to restore the military naval base in Tartus, and rushing with idiotic projects of building a naval base in the Red Sea… The Plywood Marshall *Shoygu* personally planned the assault of Tripoli during his meetings with similarly Plywood Marshall Haftar in Moscow and communicating with him on board of Kuzya *Admiral Kuznetsov* which has not yet burned back then…

And so on, and so on…

But when the USA (it should be noted – very rapidly and almost without material and human losses, while not caring about anything else) “untied their hands” – that’s when we finally went to war. Even then, to say it roughly – “half way in”.

And now we openly send into fight T-62 tanks and BMP-1 taken off of storage (praporshiks have long drunk away the tents prescribed via regulations while the generals in the ministry of defence wrote off the money for new ones and put it in their pockets), while driving around in our much more modern tanks and BMPs are various Assad’s guards and other Libyan scum…

Therefore it’s worth thinking about the question – “Was the urgent withdrawal of the bulk of US ground and air forces from Afghanistan a link in the chain of the World war planned by them?“ And have we not “played along with them in all respects in the implementation of this plan?”

Personally, for me as someone who over 15 years served in special services, such “coincidences” appear extremely suspicious… And I would really like to “question” someone about this.

Missile strike on residential building in Mykolaiv

At least three people were killed and five wounded by a Russian missile strike on a residential building in Ukraine's southern city of Mykolaiv on Wednesday, said local authorities who have launched a rescue effort for survivors.

Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych said eight missiles had hit the city, and urged residents to evacuate. He said the building appeared to have been hit by a Russian X-55 cruise missile.

Russian forces have withdrawn from Snake Island. But both sides give different accounts

(CNN)Russian troops have left Snake Island in the Black Sea, the Ukrainian Armed Forces said Thursday, after they carried out what they said was a "successful" operation.
The small but strategic territory was the scene of one of the opening salvos of the war in Ukraine, with demands from a Russian warship calling for the Ukrainian defenders to surrender, who boldly replied with "Russian warship, go f*** yourself."
Known as Zmiinyi Ostriv in Ukrainian, Snake Island lies around 30 miles (48 kilometers) off the coast of Ukraine and is close to the sea lanes leading to the Bosphorus and Mediterranean.

Moscow had never laid claim to Snake Island before this year, and it's a long way from any part of the Russian mainland. It's more than 180 miles from Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, and so there is no geographical or historical basis for Russia to claim it now.

On Monday, the Ukrainian military said it hit a second missile system on the island, as well as multiple Russian personnel in their efforts to keep them at bay.
In a short post on Telegram on Thursday the Operation Command South of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that "the enemy hastily evacuated the remnants of the garrison in two speedboats and probably left the island."
Satellite images of the island taken on Thursday by Maxar Technologies showed that Russian military forces have left the island.

Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said in a Telegram post that Ukraine's armed forces had "conducted a remarkable operation."
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, later said on Telegram that the "occupiers" had left after being "unable to withstand the fire of our artillery, missile and air strikes."
He paid tribute to those behind the manufacturing of the Ukrainian self-propelled howitzer 'Bodogan,' saying it "played an important role in the liberation of the island," and said "Thanks to foreign partners for the provided means of destruction."
Zaluzhniy also thanked the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Odesa region, which Snake Island is a part of, "who took the maximum measures to liberate a strategically important part of our territory."
Ukraine's armed forces had "achieved their goal" in driving Russian troops from Snake Island, spokeswoman for the Ukrainian Military's Southern Command, Natalia Humenyuk, said, but she cautioned it may be "too early" to establish an outpost there.
"We can state that a powerful rocket artillery assault that we have been conducting for some time, during the entire military operation, on this small enemy outpost has achieved its goal. They truly understood that they have to do the right thing, gathered their things and got out as soon as they could," Humenyuk told Ukrainian broadcaster Espresso TV.
Humenyuk reported the island remains engulfed in heavy smoke as explosions continue. Although the Ukrainian military saw Russian troops evacuate using speedboats, Humenyuk said investigation needs to take place into possible "diversion tools left behind" before claiming back the island.
"Our forces haven't landed on the island yet," she added, clarifying it is not clear if Russian troops had withdrawn completely.
Humenyuk suggested the Russian military set anti-air missile systems and radar station on fire "to cover their tracks."
"As soon as they understood all these systems were being targeted by us effectively and could not serve them anymore, they realized they had to fold their outpost and get out," Humenyuk added.

A view shows fire on Zmiinyi (Snake) Island, Ukraine, in this screengrab taken from a drone video obtained by Reuters on May 8, 2022.

However, Russia gave a slightly different narrative of the events on the island.
Russian army spokesman Igor Konashenkov said at a briefing that its forces left the island "as a gesture of goodwill."
He added that "the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation finished fulfilling the assigned tasks in Snake Island and withdrew the garrison that had been operating there."
Konashenkov intimated that the removal of Russian troops should allow an easing for the passage of grain, "this solution will prevent Kyiv from speculating on an impending grocery crisis citing the inability to export grain due to total control of the northwestern part of the Black Sea by Russia."
But the Ukrainian government rejected Russia's version of events, with Yermak denouncing the explanation.

Imagine if Russia had not launched a complete invasion but had only concentrated on expanding those areas that bordered the LNR/DNR? :smh:

The future direction of the war will be shaped by which side is able to mobilize and deploy fresh, well armed and trained troops...

Why won't RU just admit that they are at war with UK. All those extra syllables in special military operation, distort the reality. Their whole country has been turned upside down, but they can't come clean and say this isn't just a dust up.

The only problem being that the actual ultra nationalists say otherwise...

Throughout yesterday and last night the enemy while covering behind weak rearguards conducted a fast withdrawal from Lysyhansk and its surroundings. In some sections the enemy’s withdrawal was so quick that units of LDPR AF were unable to closely pursue them due to an almost complete lack of combat wheeled and track vehicles. At the moment fierce fights are only taking place in the “neck” of the “bag”, where the enemy is holding positions with an aim to allow as many of their detachments as possible to withdraw. Up to a half of the city is already abandoned, clearing is taking place. The enemy also dumped their positions at Siverskyi Donets north of Lysychansk and our units there have already crossed the river.

Most likely the battle for Lysychansk will end within the next (perhaps slightly longer) day, and the general operation will end this week.

The operation will end when our units chasing the withdrawing forces of UAF will run into the newly organised defence line at Seversk.

In general – the enemy has already suffered, and will inevitably suffer significant losses during the retreat (most of all in vehicles). But it will preserve the bulk of the experienced manpower. In this case from UAF’s side there is an obvious primacy of military expediency over political-propagandist aims. From RF AF side there is a tactical victory. Creating a “cauldron” with a complete destruction of Severodonetsk-Lysychansk group of the enemy was not achieved despite all the efforts and very sensitive (in total over one and half months) losses. As a bonus, Lysychansk will not be razed to the ground during prolonged street fights.

In general, Lysychansk has been finally finished.

Another ultra nationalist:

UAF withdrew from Severodonetsk, the withdrawal from Lysychansk is planned through conducting active defence with gradual abandonment of positions.

Regarding the direction of further offensive operations, only the Wagner PMC’s attack on Bakhmut remains in the active phase, however the whole line of defence there has been dug up with trenches wo or three echelons deep.

At the same time, Ukrainian General Staff has already begun regrouping and is now transferring recently formed detachments both to Donbas and Zaporizhye. These brigades most likely will replace those who suffered the most at the frontline.

The bottom line is that in a month after restoring the combat readiness, UAF will once again have strategic reserves of 5-6 brigades, which together with additional foreign weapon supplies can create conditions for counter-attacking activities. Therefore, the start of these is likely possible in August, roughly when the head of GUR Budanov predicted.
