Thornton, Colorado — On December 27, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Thornton Police Officers were dispatched to Wells Fargo Bank located at 12040 Colorado Blvd. in reference to an armed robbery. A male and female had reportedly displayed guns while walking into the bank. An officer in the area observed a vehicle leaving the bank at a high rate of speed. Other responding Thornton units initiated a pursuit. The fleeing vehicle, later determined to be stolen, drove to the intersection of 88th Ave and Hwy 2 in Commerce City where it drove against traffic and crashed into another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle suffered minor injury. The male suspect exited the stolen car and shots were fired, both adult male and adult female were injured in the incident. The adult male suspect fled on foot and attempted to car-jack another vehicle close by. The male and female were then taken into custody and transported to area hospitals with injuries from the incident. Two firearms were recovered from the scene. The driver, Angel Matthew Gallegos has been charged for its second degree kidnapping, first degree assault, aggravated robbery, second-degree assault, vehicular eluding and menacing among other charges. The female suspect, April Destiny Martinez is still being treated for her injuries and is facing federal charges, for her involvement.
