Tell me this shit can't be true...

Early Sunday morning at around 3 a.m. in Inglewood, California, police officers shot and killed Kisha Michael, 31, and Marquintan Sandlin, 32, after responding to a call about a car that had stopped in a traffic lane near Inglewood Avenue. While details are spotty, Inglewood Mayor James Butts acknowledged that both Michael and Sandlin were “unconscious” when police arrived, but said that officers saw Michael had a gun.

According to Butts, police spent 45 minutes attempting “to rouse” the pair in order “to de-escalate the situation” before opening fire. Shell casings at the scene indicate military grade rifles were used.

Obviously at some point they were conscious because somebody felt threatened,” Butts said, a statement that is based entirely on assumption and not actual facts. He did not explain what threat police could possibly perceive from two passed-out individuals, and refused to comment further until police finished their investigation.

“It’s more tragic because they had children,” Butts added.

They had seven children between them, actually. Both Michael and Sandlin were single parents; she is survived by three sons, while he leaves behind four daughters. Family members described both as loving, involved parents who always arranged childcare when they wanted a night out.

He was a loving father,” Sandlin’s sister Leandra Faulkner told NBC Los Angeles. “All he cared about was his girls, getting them right.”

It’s unclear how Michael and Sandlin knew each other, but right now, all their loved ones want is answers from the police and the Inglewood Mayor’s Office.

The police ain’t telling us nothing,” said Trisha Michael, Kisha Michael’s twin sister. Both she and Sandlin’s family said they had no idea why either of them would have a gun, but questioned why police resorted to deadly force.

They have crisis counselors, tear gas, bean bags,” said community activist pastor Eddie Jones. “All kinds of things besides deadly force.”

Alfonso Parker, Jr. told NBC Los Angeles that he could hear the gunfire from his home. “I know weapons, I know that sound,” Parker, a Vietnam War veteran, said. “You don’t use that crap on your own people.”
