Soooo Namor was just Killmonger 2.0 same motivation, same tactics, similar execution. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

We just saw a slightly different take on the same themes and situations.
Both “villains” came from a point of view that their ideas and agendas were understandable, you could sympathize with them and say you completely understand why they feel the way they do and see that they are not completely wrong.. they do things for a cause..it’s about protecting their people and unleashing wrath on individuals that rightfully deserve it.. the common enemy was white people.. 1 wanted to isolate from them until they felt threatened and than unleash chaos on them, the other wanted pure wrath for all the chaos they did to the ancestors( sins of the enemies forefathers)

The longer I'm on bgol the more I'm convinced that a big chunk of the people who are on here are a bunch of Black dudes who don't interact with other Black people and their only interaction is on online very white spaces. Because a lot of this shit you see on here really does sound like a bunch of Reddit posts from a bunch of suburban white boys.

Someone on reddit asked, "why didn't the Wakandans just throw bombs in water?"

But the bold is the most basic disconnect and issue America and Western Culture has with POC particularly black people.

America prides itself in its ability and achievements in getting its land and independence by kicking THEY'RE asses! America's THEY and THEM was the British and French and Mexicans and Indians. Those are the THEY that lives across an ocean or hundreds of miles away from the settlers in South America. America kicked THEYRE asses and here WE are!!! :groupwave:

But thats not Black People in America's story. In order for US to celebrate where we are in this world we had to fight WHITE AMERICANS. Thats our THEY Thats what the Civil War was..thats what Juneteenth was about.

Thats why in movies Black people can't be JUST THE HERO in any story you want to tell that includes American history.

For example, we all agree that Nazis are the perfect villains. Nazis make storytelling simple..Nazis BAD... Americans GOOD. You don't need nuance for that..its understood. So when you tell the story of white Americans fighting Nazis its EASY! They go over to Europe.they beat Nazi ass...they either make the noble sacrifice (Saving Private Ryan) or they get the girl and fall in love (many WW2 war movies)...THE END. See...that white American man was just the hero...he had no further conflicts or issues beyond that and watching that kind of movie, all you have to do is just have sit back and enjoy the adventure and action.

White people get...HE FOUGHT FOR HIS COUNTRY!

Not so simple for Black men or POC in WW2 movies. We dont get to be JUST the hero. We get..HE HAD TO FIGHT HIS COUNTRY IN ORDER TO FIGHT FOR HIS COUNTRY! A Black American fighting nazis means...he gets treated like shit by White Americans at boot camp. He goes to Europe and gets treated like shit by whites Americans and Europeans. He kicks Nazi ass. He doesn't get the girl and if you want to end with an epilogue he comes home only to get treated like shit by white Americans again... in the country he just fought for.

And this is how Black heroism in America is told even thru the 21st century so far. This is why the common enemy in both Black Panther films is essentially white people. White supremacy. Thats how enduring racism and European/white colonialism, imperialism and hegemony has been for the last 500 years or so. So much so that it permeates every genre of storytelling from action adventure to drama, to even horror!

The villain in white horror movies can be some demon (supernatural) some crazed murderer (serial killer) A.I. gone wrong (techno) alien invasion of some kind (extra terrestrial) or runaway deadly virus (disease).

The villain in black horror movies is RACISM! That's all Get Out was about...even Tales from The Hood and Cosmic Slop used racists/systemic racism as themes and plot devices.

When you think about it, the worst nightmare for white people is the POSSIBILITY of something horrible happening...demons, aliens, ax killers coming.

The worst nightmare for black people is the continuation of REAL SHIT that's been happening the last 400 YEARS! We are LIVING our horror movie in real time.

So when white people or others encounter this kind of story telling and go :rolleyes2::rolleyes2:...well get used to it because A LOT OF SHIT went down for the last few centuries so we gotta A LOT of stories like that!

What are the odds Black Panther 3 will go in a different direction???

At the end of the movie namor said wakanda will have the world turn against them and they will come back to namor and basically need their help as an allie .. the world =white people and the countries they control.. namor will get his wish to attack the land dwellers and wakanda will aid him on the assault( somewhere the spirit of killermonger will smile)

“While all the other elements of the film are fictional names and places there is a clear designation of France. The French military is painted as being involved in pillage of resources of the country and of course that is unacceptable,” a French Defense Ministry spokesperson told CNN in a phone call on Monday."

Who's gonna tell him?

Okay. 5 watches and I still have the same impression - it seemed like I was watching 3 (maybe 4) movies spliced together.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, it was just very uneven; understandably so.
I still don't think Shuri is the correct actor to play BP. I'm still hoping for Regé-Jean Page. I think he would be perfect.

There's no need to pick it apart, aside from the set pieces which were a little weak and unimaginative, it was solid all around.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
2022

6.5/10

Me, the wife and my two sons watched this last night while eating dinner on Disney+ for the first time.

The film immediately starts off with T’Challa abruptly dying and Shuri hastily trying to come up with a cure to save him, which fails.

Immediately this was my first complaint of the film. There is more than enough stock footage of Chadwick from the “Capt. America: Civil War”, “Black Panther”, the Infinity Gauntlet films and other non-Disney films and appearances out there. They could have easily CGI him into the film for at least the first 30 minutes bringing him to his death. With todays CGI/AI, they could have done a pretty decent job from what they had to work with on Luke Skywalker in the last season of “The Mandalorian”. From my perspective, it seemed like they tried to re-enact the shock we all felt back in 2020 when Chadwick passed.

Also, by CGI and having him die, the MCU could have used his death as a sub-plot dealing with the after effects of The Blip. To this day no explanation has been given on where everyone went and nobody has any memory of where they were. The MCU could have used that as a on-going sub plot in the future as they slowly recast the older actors who are aging out of their roles. Opportunity missed?…We will see…

Bringing in Namor was done well and connecting him to the people of Central/South America also was done well. They introduced a sub-plot that Vibranium deposits are located in other places outside of Wakanda, which will introduce new sub-plots in future MCU projects.

They set it up for Attuma to rise up reacting to Namor bowing down to Wakanda. We should see more of him in future MCU projects.

And they have set it up to recast T’Challa introducing his son. Shuri most likely will fill in the role in a series or movie in the next year or two, then debut in “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” in 2005. A 3rd Black Panther film probably will debut around 2027 and with the way they time jump, by 2030 they will have recast the role with a new male Black Panther who will be T’Challa’s son.

Overall, it was a good movie. My sons pointed out that it could have been shorter, which I agree cuz i slightly snoozed off around the 90 minute mark.

It’s not the best MCU project and it’s not the worst.

Looking forward to what they plan on doing with Wakanda and Namor in the future.

I was just about to post this. It's not a bad idea, but I can't see Coogler walking away from the end of a trilogy. MJB still has that Black Superman project in development over at Warner Bros. If James Gunn is smart, he'll offer him that or another DCU project to direct. They have so many Black superheroes lying around, collecting dust. :smh:

Been listening to some insider podcasts...

Voters got really mad after Basset golden globe win that it was being talked about as the first Marvel win.. especially as a black production

They still pissed about Oscar so white etc.

So they may be making a concerted effort to NOT having her win.
