Marvel Studios apparently has Benedict Cumberbatch under its spell.

The "Sherlock" actor is in final talks to star as Doctor Strange, Marvel's sorcery-wielding hero, Deadline first reported.

Many fans didn't need the Eye of Agamotto to see that the 38-year-old Cumberbatch would be perfect for the part of the Sorcerer Supreme in director Scott Derrickson's (“Deliver Us From Evil”) superhero flick.

But the studio seemed to have locked in on Joaquin Phoenix over the summer for "Doctor Stange" -- only to have the "Her" actor reportedly balk at Marvel's prerequisite multi-picture deal.

As long as MARVEL and Scott Derrickson create the types of dimensions/worlds made by Ditko, Colan, Brunner, etc. I'm there.

MARVEL was on some serious LSD/Psychedelic trip with "DR. STRANGE" in those days...

Man, that early Ditko work was groundbreaking. Can it be pulled off, tho?

(since you like Ditko, you might wanna check out a DC character called Rac Shade, the Changing Man, circa 1977 or 78)

One of Dr Strange's most astonishing accomplishments was giving Dr Banner the ability to control the Hulk. Dr Strange is good with me.

They had lowered his powers recently when he stopped being Socorer Supreme but back then he was one of the baddest dudes in the Marvel Universe.

I hated that fuckin storyline. He went through all that shit to find a new Sorcerer Supreme. Brother Voodoo is SS for like 3 days. Dies. And then Steven just "gets it back". But it was never mentioned. Nevvvver fucking mentioned. And the hilarious thing is!? Now that he's back to being SS he basically goes and does the same fuking thing that LOST him the SS title to begin with by selling his soul to a dark god.

I'm like wtf Marvel?

I think I still have ALL of those Ditko "SHADE" books laying in storage somewhere. I loved that book.

I was a fan of the VERTIGO revise too.

Never read the Vertigo redux, though I read some of the recurring storyline in that new 52 lineup of books. It covered a few of those SHADE characters. Time to re-up......

(I wonder what those Ditko SHADE books are going for on eBay?)

Breaking: Chiwetel Ejiofor To Play Baron Mordo In 'Doctor Strange'

http://heroichollywood.com/home-1/2...ejiofor-to-play-baron-mordo-in-doctor-strange

Rumored for months that Chiwetel Ejiofor would star in Doctor Strange, it's being reporting that Ejiofor will take on the role of Baron Mordo, enemy of Doctor Strange.

Although Mordo is a villain in the comics it doesn't mean that he will be completely a villain in the film, just like Tilda Swinton's "The Ancient One" role they are both being reworked to fit in the film.

Written by Jon Spaihts, the film follows the story of the brilliant and arrogant neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who learns after a horrific car accident that his hands don’t hold the key to his powers. Instead, he discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

Marvel's Doctor Strange hits theatres November 4, 2016.

he is such an amazing actor I'm happy he is involved,

wish he wasn't a villain

but he may steal the whole film much like Loki did.

As a youngin, that shit used to trip me out & irritate me so I respected DocStrange (especially after he was in that KingSize XMen Annual one summer which I have bagged up somewhere in decent condition) but didn't fuck with that comic too hot. My mind wasn't completely open to all that inter dimensional shit with Eternity & all them.

Let's see how they present the project to the big screen & how its accepted.

Wasn't that the premise of the cartoon version?

Interested to see this already especially with Chiwetel Ejiofor attached.

That is a classic annual because it was a completely different look for the X-men.

I see them really trying to ground Dr. Strange, similar to how they worked him into the Avengers book, where he can do all this shit but he's not all powerful. They're going to aim to make "Big and Cosmic" human and relatable.

This film is going to have some talent in it. Along with Cumberbatch, Marvel is switching things up by casting Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One. In regards to Ejiofor, he hasn't officially signed on yet, but the movie version of Baron Mordo is “an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange’s mythology” and cautions that he won’t necessarily be a completely villainous character."

Hope so as his character is layered & convoluted without knowing all them extensive details of his past. Dumb him down into more digestible of a character for movie goers & for team's sake as u said.
