I have done this and did not know it was that rare.

One time we were low on charcoals and didn't have enuf
to finish the chicken.

We made the ribs and some steak but the coals lost that
heat and I did not feel like going to the store and picking
up more.

We smoked the chicken on the grill and then floured,
seasoned and fried them and virtually did the same thing
and they were great!
