Adult kids living at home on the rise across the board

moving home is how wealth is built. America is where there's mass propaganda to move out to form households to stimulate the economy.
You can't tell 'em nothing. Cats don't know their history.
Im 38
I work with a lot of 22-30 year olds
I see a lot of lazy, selfish, spoiled motherfuckers with no work ethic
Some live at home, some have roommates, very few live alone in their own place

I grew up it was an insult to be living with your parents when you were 25+ or out of college

what did you go to school for again?

I see times have changed - when I have kids I dont want to be raising them in my home for 25+ years
FOH
Man, the game has changed, period. This ain't our grandparents U.S., this ain't our parents U.S., hell it's not even our U.S. if you was born in the mid 70's or later.
yall missed the mans point talking shit.

come out of school at 22 or so (or get a decent fulltime job out of high school at 18) and spend the next 5 years at home rent free or almost rent free, pushing ur parents old ass maxima... gettn ur credit together and stackn paper...

vs

get out of school.... move out into an apartment, buy a hot lil car @ 15% interest, get sucked into the nightlife, eating out, drinking, trips, lil dating, credit cards.

one guy is sitting on $100k+ in the bank before 30 even with a weak salary.

one guy is 3 paychecks away from being homeless... even if he's making more than the other guy.

u do the math.
Preach.
its called sacrifice...

then yall will be the 1st ones to talk about how the indians own all the 7-11's right? the koreans got the carryouts... and the haircare industry. here in dc the ethiopians have the cab game on lock as well as all of the parking lots and valets. if u have to pay to park there, they own the lot. the mexicans got the landscaping, commerical cleaning and moving into construction...

i can go on if u want.

every minority group in this country other than us is locking down or has already locked down entire industries.

how do they do it? they pool their resources. they have 3 generations living under the same roof. they save money and they invest in themselves and then hire each other. they come here from all over the world and within 15 years they are turning your black ass down for a job and we built this bitch.

oh well...
I say, church.
I went back and saved over 50 grand in the bank account treated my pops house. Like I had a 2000 a month mortgage. Making 4k a month and putting up 2k, knew this couple who moved back with her parents and they saved up 80k bought a big ass house, now she drives a range and he drives a massaratti. As long as you have a goal and stacking bread do you! Mexicans do it all the time having big houses.
That Maserati......
#1 dont speak for me. if u dont understand what im sayn, then ask me to clarify some shit for u.

#2 i didnt say most people at home are pooling resources. its a fucking recession. i know why these muthafuckas are living at home

the point im making is that its only black people who will walk around acting like a 1bedroom apartment and a lexus thats hitting you for 70% of ur takehome = living the life. no thought towards saving, or investing, or growth.

we put too much weight on the wrong things. like i said, this attitude is a big part of why we cant lock anything down for ourselves in this country.

no i dont live at my folks home. been out since 17.
no im not broke. no im not a cac.
*shots......*
lol ninjas bout to turn this thread into a tag team mlm seminar.

random dude in slightly oversized suit: have you brothas ever thought about making residual income ... i mean truly making money in your SLEEP brothas. Everybody uses electricity right. You see I'm the VP of a very large communications compa....

mainman: exits.. goes to bed.
:eek::eek::eek::lol::lol::lol::smh::smh::smh:

Katrina - 27 black chick, bachelor degree, lives in mini mansion with parents

Suzie - 32 white chick, master's degree, just loves her situation with her dad.

Married co-worker - 30-45 white couple, sales managers at hotel, moved back in wife's parents to pay down debt.

Arline - 24 black chick, working towards bachelors, goes out whenever she damn feels like it. Lives in huge home, parents are cool as fuck.

Lauren - 22 white chick, bachelor degree, travels the world.

Samantha - 25 white chick, master degree, paying down accumulated college debt. Travels the world and goes out at will.

Fuck, their's so many more but I'm to lazy to look at my Wife's Facebook.
I'm listening......
leaving home asap is really an american thing. people from other countries come over here and are like 'why'?

i have a couple homies from other countries that came out here to go to school and ended up staying (legally, for all the closet bgol tea partiers ) and straight asked why americans don't like living as a multi generational unit. i was like  and my homie from vietnam explained how you have several generations living in one home, taking care of each other and not moving out until someone get married. and a lot of times the newly weds will be living a stones throw away from the main house.

my other friend from mexico was saying how you'll have several different families make an agreement to live in one place, everybody splitting the bills and saving until ALL of them can afford to buy a home, then they all go their separate ways.
I have tried to tell people this for years, only white people born in the U.S. originate that nuclear family shit: mom, dad, and the kids.

White immigrants, black immigrants, blacks in America before we started coveting "how" white people got wealth, ALL stayed in intergenerational situations. That's why now, you can't pass no wealth down because the majority of it is represented in what...PROPERTY OWNERSHIP, which blacks were not allowed to participate during Jim Crow.

The shit is a set UP!

another at home child man.

Every cat that sounded off about "building wealth" and "stop looking down on people that stay with their parents" even though we stated a million times we were not shitting on people at home with a plan.

You live in an apartment that's in your fat bitches name. lol @ using usps you broke bitch.

So who in this thread lives with his or her parents?

i live on my own and im doing ok...but the truth is if my family lived in a city with good job opportunities i would consider moving in and save some money...shit seems like a no brainer....i mean im not married yet

Every cat that sounded off about "building wealth" and "stop looking down on people that stay with their parents" even though we stated a million times we were not shitting on people at home with a plan.

I'm just trying to see who is going to step to the forefront and admit because some how 99.9% of us on this board doesn't live at home

I mean skepticism is one thing (there's a lot of dudes selling wolf tickets), but hating is another. Most dudes don't do their research or if they do research it'll be very shallow or just looking for negative shit.

Which teaches me that most people on BGOL don't know about networking. When I see someone who makes a sensational claim, my reaction isn't to hate on them, but to try to network with them and see what they are talking about at a student level. Anyone who is successful in business or knows how to get the best jobs, knows that networking is essential.

So being a skeptic is fine, but talking shit about stuff you don't truly understand or seeking to hate before seeking to connect with people claiming to know stuff you don't or earn above what you earn is a very idiotic strategy and the main reason a lot of niggas stay losing.

fam if you notice my post history on this board you would see that im all about building, sharing resources and helping others as i help myself. i dont need an award or a pat on the back for that. thats just how i get down. i enjoy sharing.

i also recognize bullshit when i see/hear it. is what it is. i saw something so i asked about it. aint even that deep. no hate. no beef.

i enjoy seeing/helping brothas and sistas get it out here. i enjoy building w/ fam.... but a lying ass nigga that feels the need to shit on others to boost his own low self esteem makes me sick to my stomach.

What makes you think he's shitting on people to build his self esteem?

I mean, you got to understand that we constantly deal with people who ain't about shit coming up with every excuse in the world or telling us to get a real job when they work at McDonald's or live at home with their mothers playing playstation or some fuck shit but got time to tear down people.... so we both respond negatively to shit like this.

I don't know the nigga whole post history or claims, but it seems crazy to me on BGOL that people are too sympathetic towards niggas who ain't doing shit, and seek to tear down any dude who say they getting it (especially if it's by doing they own business/hustle) and not working a job.

More and more men and women out here are moving back home. Asians are being flown in taking mad jobs. Double phd's that locals cant compete with. The median home price in san francisco is around 800 thousand and a studio rents for 2200 on average. Oakland is cheaper and my rent is around 2500 but i stay in a three bedroom jawn in uptown. I see nothing wrong with living at home if you have a job, just got divorced, lost your job, or are sick etc. In todays society shit is fucked up for us. We get shitty amounts of vacation paid days, hardly any sick time and you can be fired for no reason in california by law. Shits fucked.

when somebody is mysteriously wayyy too passionate/vocal about a subject that really shouldnt bother them that much.

like i said... its very similar to the cat that does womens hair and eyebrows who is ALWAYS calling everybody a faggot and dyke. at some point you realize that the person is really talking to themselves.

shit if homie got himself put out of his place and was living out of his car he prolly knows a thing or 2 about being lazy. cuz im not proud to say it but if im facing that type of situation and cant find any work and have burned all my bridges w/ friends and fam... i will take penitentiary chances before accepting homelessness. his grind game gotta be kinda week to end up in that situation. glad the dude turned shit around.

So who in this thread lives with his or her parents?

Never was an option my parents passed when I was in Jr High(pops) & High school(mom). Nearest family was 400 miles away & my slightly older brother was running the street. We came together like Voltron. Parents left us a house, but moms Life insurance collasped while she was sick before she passed. I was the only kid I know in 11th grade writing a mortgage check every month($1400) & my legal guardian was 3000 miles away. Didnt know what a W-2 was until I was 25.

I just saw friends who wear extremely reckless with money while living in comfort. Without struggle some people are not going to be shit- I agree. Others its innate gift , and I envied those who had good family structures and took full advantage of it(college, saving at home, etc). Its a gift & blessing.

I have seen shit that would break people & it has broken and killed friends of mine. And I am not just talking about losing my parents. Some folks have gravy situations and they dont even know it. Thats redundant I know.

I just see foreigners getting that American dream because they work as team. And I have friends who dont even talk to their own brothers, sisters, cousins & parents. Negative environments breed negative people, but the flip is some folks create that bullshit themselves with jealousy & resentment. And the big caveat that people seem to miss or continue to misstate is that one can only be jealous(hater) of someone that has more than themselves. There are PLENTY OF HATERS WITH MORE THAN THE AVERAGE the bear-They hate down. I never had time to be jealous. EVERY situation in life is a learning opportunity.

You still researching a niggas life bitch boy? You swear I am passionate about lazy ass niggas soaking up their parents resources? I have never been lazy in life and never burned any bridges. When i lost my crib due to poor money management I took that L and refused to be a burden on anyone bitch. I slept in my car and grinded and came right back up without the help of anyone and that is a definition of a man you soft ass nigga. Your post show that you live with your parents and have nothing else to do but look through a niggas post to find kinks in the armor of a real MAN. You are the type of nigga that hides behind that "I want people to build" shit but really behind that you are hoping a nigga isnt winning:lol:(i.e. Your rant about instant rewards is not generating money because of the traffic stats YOUtook time to look up!) You are hopping my pockets are not what I say they are huh? I bet you would think I was lying if I said my brother is a executive at Verizon and my little Sister is in the Olympics because it just isnt possible that a young black man is actually into shit and made it that way on his own:lol: I am not one of these niggas on BGOL with over 10 k post trying to impress niggas like you..I am about money and growth for all my people..stay off my dick unless you talking about money.

thinking that you have to tackle the world all alone is not the "definition of a man". in my experience its the definintion of a cat that most likely cant be trusted. a man knows how to lead, follow and work together for a common goal. if u profile the most successful people you know u would see that all of them have a support network. people help each other come up. nobody makes it alone.

Your post show that you live with your parents and have nothing else to do but look through a niggas post to find kinks in the armor of a real MAN. You are the type of nigga that hides behind that "I want people to build" shit but really behind that you are hoping a nigga isnt winning

nah my count shows i post on bgol too damn much and have the ability to do that. nothing more nothing less.

lol im tryin to "find the kinks in the armor of a real man?" lil overdramatic? nah i just have a few pet peeves. people that use other people to lie...make me sick. and cats that put others down to boost themselves...make me sick. u did both so i pulled ur card. u come off like a snake to be honest. i dont wish anything bad on u tho. i dont know u. shit i hope u eventually start getting the cake that ur talking about getting. cuz when u start gettin it consistently u'll prolly stop talking about it all together anyway. and u definitely aint gonna let somebody elses name come out ur mouth when ur talkin about ur shit. u wont need to.

if ur sis and brother are doing it big thats wasup. actually that makes everything ur doin/sayin make more sense.

and fam it only takes 5 seconds to look up low traffic and see broke links on a websites homepage. thats usually enough. like i said u aint gotta front for me or anybody else. do ur thing.

im done goin back and forth w/ u. get urs man. if u got some shit thats working, work that mf to death. if thinking i hate u motivates u go for it. whatevr works.

Your character is flaw and debating with you is futile. Miss me with that my post count is high because I can shit is a damn lie and you and I both know it. Finish working on that mixtape with sammy jax and cross your fingers in hope to get "wealthy" while living with your moms.
The definition of man is taking care of business regardless of your situation and not depending on others. The reason why I am successful now is because of relationships I have built in my area of business. Networking is my fortay. There is a side of BGOL that you havent seen because you waste your time in silly ass threads and looking into other niggas backgrounds. It is dudes on BGOL who make REAL money and do not participate in bullshit like yourself. I network with people like that and we make money on a daily basis building real wealth while you sit over there salty hopping a niggas pockets are flat.
Done with your lame ass until you are talking about money or creating business opportunities for niggas still at home with momma.

Bullshit...you niggas that live at home always try to make up an excuse:lol:
If you are 18 get up, get out and get something! If you are staying at home with mommma pay half her mortgage and bills. I made a post about this last year and 80 percent of bgol live under the roof of their parents. I dont give a fuck how the economy is...you are a man and got to get it by any means.

this mentality, i'm talking about.

this is how a so called MAN, goes out, gets in debt, and never have any savings.

cause he spending all his money, paying RENT to the man. and making the landlord richer.

this black (American) way of thinking is brainwashed in people.

and until it changes..... u get the point.

but for sake of argument, whats the link to that post youre talking about?
i'd like to hear both sides of the argument.

------

other cultures will SAVE their money..
they stay 5-6 deep in a single house/apartment, so they dont have a single large rent bill each month. so they got extra $500 each person to save/spend each MONTH. every month.

the black community frows upon this behavor.

after high school a young nigga is lame, and gets dissed by any female, if he still at home with his parents. (even if he is in school or not).

ever young nigga goes out get an apartment (even if its a cheap $500-$600 a month) shack, on a mcdonalds paycheck.

at $500 a month, x 12 months. thats $6000 a year, a person just BLEW on rent. (making landlord richer)

yet if that same person could had saved that $500 a month for only 5years, that would had been $30,000 CASH money, they would have in their bank accounts, (a sum large enuff to buy an entire home cash in many parts of the country).

now lets add in, another $200a month (in utilities, power, water, gas, etc)
thats $700 a month.

$700 a month * 12 months a year = $8400
thats $42000 in only 5years.

thats $42,000 EACH PERSON.
what if instead of getting our own apartments, we shacked up for only 5 years, splitting that bill 3 or 4 ways. we each could have that $42,000 in only 5 years.

what could WE (our people) do with that $42,000??
and keep in my im only using $700 a month. (lets be real, LA, NY, Chicago, you can even got a spot for $700 a month).

just think, if 2 people did it, thats over $84,000 SAVED. and so on.

what could YOU do with a $42,000 PAID for house, at age 25?

The Sensible Resurgence of the Multigenerational Home
By Chris Farrell
August 13, 2014

One of the biggest fears spawned by the recession and subsequent up-and-down recovery is getting stuck at home. The commonly expressed concern is that millennials are too burdened with student debts and poor job prospects to make it on their own. According to the narrative of generational dependency, the resurgence in multigenerational living is a trend hardly worth celebrating.

Or is it? Yes, many young college graduates have faced tough economic circumstances in recent years. But the trend toward embracing the multigenerational home began well before the Great Recession, suggesting something else is at work. A record 57 million Americans, or 18.1 percent of the population, lived in a multigenerational household in 2012, according to a Pew Research report, “In Post-Recession Era, Young Adults Drive Continuing Rise in Multi-Generational Living,” released on June 17, 2014. (You can include the First Family among the multigenerational households.) That’s up from 28 million, or 12.1 percent of the population, in 1980. Equally impressive, the return of the multigenerational household marks a striking reversal of the post-World War II decline. In 1940, 24.7 percent of the population resided in a multigenerational home, a living arrangement that bottomed in the early 1980s.

Visit the website of major builders such as Toll Brothers (TOL) and Lennar (LEN) and you’ll see multiple designs of homes targeted at the multigenerational owner. For instance, Lennar’s home comes under its NextGen brand. In comments on June 26 about the Miami-based company’s second-quarter earning, Chief Executive Officer Stuart Miller said that Lennar’s “sales continue to benefit from the execution of our NextGen product strategy. Year-over-year sales of our multigenerational brand grew by 58 percent, totaling 368 sales in our second quarter. We now offer NextGen plans in 201 communities across the country, and in our second quarter, the average sales price for NextGen was 39 percent above the company’s average,” according to a transcript of the earnings call.

The multigenerational home is a safety net, of course. The bigger story is how it reflects the economic benefits of multiple generations living under one roof. For one thing, pooling financial resources among the generations is a smart way to lower the overall cost of home ownership. That’s before taking into account built-in child care (at least for emergencies and date nights) and easy monitoring when aging parents turn frail. Shared ownership allows young adults to build up savings and the older generation to draw down less on retirement savings. Little wonder multigenerational homes are common among immigrant families.

During the last 40 years the median home has increased in size by almost 1,000 square feet, from 1,525 sq. ft. in 1973 to 2,491 sq. ft. in 2013. In 1973, 40 percent of homes had 1.5 bathrooms or less. The comparable figure in 2013 was 5 percent. Better yet, a majority of millennials report that they get along with their parents. The generations even share similar music tastes. The Beatles and Rolling Stones are among the top four favorite bands among those surveyed ages 16 to 29 and 50 to 64, according to Pew.

The embrace of the multigenerational home may get an additional boost from a resurgence in entrepreneurial energy across the country. The American garage may be the legendary birthplace for dynamic businesses, but for many entrepreneurs the home will do. Digital technologies make it practical and relatively cheap to start and run small businesses out of the home.

The younger-adult generation learned from their boomer parents not to plan on a long career at a good-paying job with full benefits. Surveys routinely show that younger workers expect to pursue multiple jobs. The idea of joining the ranks of microentrepreneurs holds enormous appeal, especially to pursue indie capitalist endeavors like part-time web designer, musician, and kickstarter-funded artisan.

A similar entrepreneurial vigor is even more apparent among aging boomers. According to the Kauffman Foundation, Americans ages 55 to 64 start more businesses than any other age group. Last year, businesses begun by that demographic accounted for almost one-quarter of all new businesses, up from 14 percent in 1996. Entrepreneurs who live together can cut expenses and share resources. (Hey Mom, do you have any paper for printing? Son, let’s share wireless costs.)

The rise of mobile, low-cost information technologies has blurred the traditional lines between home and office for a considerable period. The same technologies are fueling the rise of collaborative business enterprises such as Uber, Airbnb, TaskRabbit, co-working office space, and similar efforts. The same insight and dynamics are behind the trend of generations living under the same roof. Imagine, thanks to the potent combination of technology, economics, and social relations, our grandchildren are likely to think the multigenerational home is normal.

very interesting housing niche. apparently it's one mortgage on a 2 family (2 generations of the same family) house.

I stayed with my moms a few years after college. At the time I was making about 50k and for a little over a year I saved 80% of every check. Ma dukes can never be thanked enough for allowing me to bum at the crib.

both of my parents are dead.
it's a hell of a motivator to get your ass up and make something of yourself.

Sometimes motivation will make a boy into a man..sorry to hear about your folks. On the flip aide enabling parents makes the type of niggas you are seeing in this thread. Making all types of excuses on why they still stay at home. As you can see I stated that if you are still at home and working together with your FAM to achieve shit...good business but we all know that is not the case with 90 percent of these niggas. They create this automatic defense (,I am saving for a house../I am going to school bullshit) to make them self feel better and practicing that for the bitches they meet. Good thread though!

Where you plugged at Shaddy?
