Acer hasn’t seen to much success with Windows 8, and they’ve been moving further toward Chrome OS and Android for their devices. They are going to announce their AiO (All in One) next week which is said to pack a Intel 3GHz core i5 4430 “Haswell” processor and it’ll run Android.
It wouldn’t be too surprising to see other PC vendors to announce new systems based on Intel’s Haswell and Bay Trail chips. Intel has already been dropping some hints that Android laptops running on the Bay Trail chip are on the way and will be priced between $200-300. Their new AiO system is said to go for under $400 at some retailers but said to be about $425 at most places.
That’s the big advantage over Windows. Android devices can be sold lower and require less hardware. In fact, we’ve seen tablets selling for under $400 running Android with some amazing specs. Like the Nexus 10. The Acer AiO is supposedly going to have 1GB of RAM and storage configurations will start as low as 8GB.
We’ve been seeing quite a few AiO devices running Android recently. There’s the ASUS Transformer AiO, then HP had leaked their Slate AiO that’s running on the Tegra 4, and now Acer. They are becoming popular because Windows 8 works with Touch screen displays much better than Windows 7 did. But I’m still not sold on a touch screen desktop? What do you think about them?
How many of you would be interested in an All in One device from Acer that runs Windows 8 and Android 4.2? I know I’d definitely be interested, depending on the specs and price point. If it does sell for $400-450 and it good specs, it should do fairly well. Unless it’s got Windows RT on board instead of Windows 8 Pro. Let us know in the comments below what you think about all this.
