Kobe is definitely one of the 10-15 most exciting players ever

you say exciting, i say repulsive. why split hairs?

BTW, since when is "exciting" a criteria for inclusion on a "best" list?

if you put Dominique, Reggie Miller, and Scottie Pippen on the list than Kobe Deserves it too.

why?

in dominique wilkins' case, he was a virtual iron man compared to the dainty, fragile tobe.

dominique wilkins was also a fierce competitor, wasn't a noted tanker/sandbagger, and didn't bitch/whine/complain about doing the required heavy lifting, unlike primadonna tobe.

dominique wilkins also notched 4 consecutive 50+ win seasons without the benefit of an HOF head coach or a teammate who was a multiple MVP winner.

also, dominique wilkins never played a full season on a team that finished in last place in its division, but tobe did.

dominique wilkins didn't publicly deride teammates he had to carry on his back: randy wittman, tree rollins, jon koncak, cliff levingston, et al.

dominique wilkins carried teams he lead beyond the first round of the playoffs. how 'bout tobe?

Kobes is much more gifted than about 15 - 20 of the players on the list.

physically? perhaps. mentally attuned to the game? never.

You can't put him in the same sentence with Bobby Hurley. Like I said earlier his antics behind the mic take away from his ball accomplishments. He was tall, smart and talented. Just had brittle feet and now acts like an asshole.

i never said or implied that bill walton was a bust/bum/fraud. he accomplished some phenomenal things in college, and busted his ass (sometimes) as a professional athlete.

but i prefer a more realistic perspective when it comes to who was actually running things on that 1977 blazers squad. i also choose NOT to gloss over the HUGE tank job he did for 4 seasons with the clippers.

BTW, i didn't compare bill walton with/to bobby hurley. i compared the "IF" qualifications.

"IF" bobby hurley hadn't been in a car accident, then...
"IF" bill walton hadn't been injured, then...
"IF" len bias hadn't overdosed, then...
"IF" hank gathers hadn't died, then...

that shit doesn't fly with me.

My choices are not direct picks from the top 50 players.

Guards
1. Isaih Thomas
1. Pistol Pete Marovich
1. Erving "Magic" Johnson
1. Earl "The Pearl" Monroe
2. Michael Jordan
2. Larry Bird

Forwards
3. Scottie Pippen
3. Julius "Doctor J" Irving
4. Shawn Kemp
4. Charles Barkley
4. Tim Duncan

Centers
5. Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain (sp)
5. Kareem Abdul Jabar
5. Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins
5. Bill Walton

A lot of these cats don't remember how great Scottie Pippen was, he was damn near unstopppppable!! When Mike was putting up huge numbers nightly and having 12 - 14 free throws per game Scottie was averaging 2 - 3 free throw trips per night and was still able to put up 20+ points per game. Scottie was equivalent to what a lock down CB was, night after night.

Back to the original topic, I would've removed Dave Cowens and replace w/ Bernard King.

Real MC's are hard to find like a Bernard King jersey - Cormega

Obviously the fact that Bob McAdoo, Connie Hawkins and Dumars/Dennis Johnson and so forth are voted so low tells me that you nigga dont know your histiry.

Bob McAdoo shoulda been on the original Top 50.

Connie Hawkins was Dr J before Julius and Dr. J passed the torch to Michael Jordan.

Respect is due!

Gotcha. By the way don't buy that shit wit Hank. I played on a couple of AAU teams with him and in summer leagues against him when we were in high school and he was an extra hard worker and the meanest guy ever on the court but he was only 6'6" at best and had very little skills away from the basket. He did, however, have 48 and 20 boards against Shaq and Stanley Roberts.

Scottie Pippen was the greatest defender of all time. He could defend three different positions and he was just as great playing his man or providing help. He could play half court d and full court. His big problem was he just wasn't a good batman. He was great as Robin but couldn't step up and take the lead when he needed to and bitched about not getting the ball and headaches. "Headaches"? Mo Cheeks played a whole year with a broken blood vessel in his head and constant migranes.

Naw they're just young and never saw them.

I would add Duncan, KG, Kidd, Payton, and Dumars
Delete: Pippen, David Robinson, Cowens, Walton, and Worthy

The argument here is that Pippen couldnt hold shit together after Jordan's first retirement. His leadership quality was absent, he was exposed in Houston and Portland. The same goes for Worthy, dont get me wrong he was "Big Game James", but he always had someone on his squad that was double teamed to where he could go off and put up numbers... (UNC and the Lakers)

Cowens was part of the Celtic Dynasty you coulda put anyone in his spot on the floor and they would have won.

David Robinson was good but IMO he didnt do "ENOUGH" to be listed in the Top 50 of all time, he would have been 59 or something like that.

Bill Walton... I just dont like Bill Walton (nuff said)

getting 48 and 20 in coach westhead's loyola system has to be put into context. beating them wasn't difficult; you just had to advance the ball by throwing over the top.
