Are you ready to leave the Matrix USA for good and retire abroad? Thinking about a chance of pace and lifestyle?

In this article, you will learn my top 10 best places to retire abroad for black men. All of these destinations are great places to escape the rat race and live a life of sunshine, great food and beautiful women.

Today, the process of retiring can be quite expensive due to factors such increase in the cost of not only insurance but also healthcare. People who are currently working may dread retiring for the fear that after retirement they would not be able to support themselves as well as they did while still working.

All of the countries on this list are cheaper than the United States and currently have many US expats living there. They also have nice beaches (with the exception of Canada) so you can relax in a nice climate if you spent most of your working days in an office.

Country Rating Index

In order to give you more information on each country, I have created a 1 to 5 rating system (1 being the worst and 5 being the best). I have considered the following traits of a good country:

  • Happiness Factor
  • Cost of Living
  • Safety
  • Women
  • Food
  • Distance in miles from the USA (for US readers who want to visit family)
However, herein is a list of countries which may serve as perfect locations for retirement:

1. Panama
PanamaCity.jpg

Panama Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 5
  • Cost of Living: 4
  • Safety: 4
  • Women: 4
  • Food: 5
  • Distance to USA: 5
Panama Highlights

  • Great weather
  • Beautiful women
  • US dollar is the official currency
  • Pensionado program for retirees
  • Stable Economy
  • World class dental and medical care
  • Only 3 hours flight from USA
Sunshine, beautiful Panamanian women, great food and a low cost of living? Say What?

Panama ranks as #1 on our retirement list because it offers so many benefits to black men.

The government of Panama is gladly welcoming retirees from the USA especially. First and foremost, getting to Panama is quite easy. Americans do not require a visa to enter Panama. All you need is a passport.

Secondly, Panama offers a generous retirement program to foreigners who can prove they earn at least $1,000 per month. The cost of living in Panama is so low that you can live a laid back lifestyle for 1/2 the cost of retiring in America.

Also, if a person buys any property in this country, the limit of the monthly pension gets even lower.

Other bonuses which come with the visa include: being given a discount on the medical expenses, entertainment, food and services such as electricity is charged very cheaply, proving to be less costly as compared to living in the United States.

2. Costa Rica

Costa Rica Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 4
  • Cost of Living: 5
  • Safety: 5
  • Women: 3
  • Food: 4
  • Distance to USA: 5
Costa Rica Highlights

  • Laid back lifestyle
  • Great year round weather
  • Delicious Food
  • Wonderful natural beauty
  • Easy going women
  • Low cost of living
  • Only 3 hours flight from USA
Living in Costa Rica has proved to be less costly as compared to living in the United States. Anyone can live absolutely comfortable with an amount of between 1300 to 1600 dollars per month. Furthermore, a trip to Costa Rica is fast and costs less as compared to other destinations of retirement in Asia and South America.

Also, shipping personal items to the country is cheap although the people who are immigrating there may just opt to buy new household items in the country.

For more information, read our article about living in Costa Rica.

3. Brazil

Brazil Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 5
  • Cost of Living: 4
  • Safety: 3
  • Women: 5
  • Food: 5
  • Distance to USA: 3
Brazil Highlights

  • The black mecca of South America
  • World class nightlife
  • Beautiful warm year round women
  • Most beautiful women in the Americas
  • Great food and cuisine
  • Lower cost of living
  • Excellent vibe
Brazil comes in at 3rd on the list because many brothas like myself fell in love with this beautiful country. You’ll find the best looking women in the Americas living in Brazil. Rio de Janeiro offers world class nightlife and entertainment at a fraction of the cost compared to cities like Los Angeles and New York.

Many black men retire in Brazil and end up getting married to their dream girl. I would have ranked it #1 if it weren’t for the long flight distance and poverty in the areas outside of the metro city.

Brazil is such a large country that it will take years to explore it all. If you’re looking for amazing weather and beautiful women in a vibrant playground for men, then Brazil is for you.

Here, there is the warm climate and absolutely low cost of living. Also, the country has a double taxation agreement with some other countries and so if a person has been covered by either of the agreements, he cannot be charged on their income twice.

4. Colombia

Colombia Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 4
  • Cost of Living: 5
  • Safety: 3
  • Women: 5
  • Food: 5
  • Distance to USA: 3
Colombia Highlights

  • Super low cost of living
  • A hidden gem off the beaten tourist path
  • Beautiful, down to earth women
  • Warm year round weather
  • Vibrant nightlife
  • Excellent beaches on the Caribbean coast
Colombia comes in ranked #4 behind Brazil because this country is truly a hidden gem. The Caribbean coast has some of the best beaches in the world and a vibrant nightlife that hasn’t been destroyed by excessive tourism.

The cost of living in places like Medellin, Cartagena, and Cali is so cheap that you’ll be saving money by moving here from the USA/UK.

Looking for marriage? Colombian women love black men and you won’t be single for long. Colombianas are passionate so watch out brothas!

In this country, most of the goods cost half what they do in the United States and Canada, so you can already tell the cost of living is low since food is a basic commodity. Furthermore, a person can take a cab in the city of Cartagena to anywhere else and it can never cost more than three dollars. This city is definitely becoming more popular for retirees.

Madrid, Spain
Spain Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 3

  • Exciting Nightlife
  • Closer to Africa and SE Asia
  • Friendly local women
  • Lower cost of living than UK
  • World class cuisine
  • A hotspot for backpackers
Spain is another hidden gem for black men. The country offers a simple, laid back lifestyle when compared to its northern neighbor, England. The women are friendly and love to date black men.

To learn more about being black in Spain, read our interview with travel Expert Arona Silva.

The cost of living is relatively low year in year out. There is also the attractive Mediterranean coast, where one can relax in the beautiful city of Valencia. The people in Valencia generally embrace a healthy lifestyle and so even the food there is amazing and healthy!

6. The Gambia

Gambia Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 5
  • Cost of Living: 5
  • Safety: 2
  • Women: 5
  • Food: 3
  • Distance to USA: 2
The Gambia Highlights

The Gambia comes in at #6 because you can retire in one of the cheapest countries in Africa. The cost of living is 1/10 of what it costs in America. Everything from food to apartments is extremely cheap. The locals are friendly and the women are hard working and loyal.

Many West African men settle down in the Gambia to look for a wife. Did I mention the official language is English? English is widely spoken so no language barrier here. Safety can be an issue, but you will have zero problems if you respect the culture and stay drug & alcohol free.

Many Americans are retiring in the Gambia with their wife and living the relaxed beach lifestyle.

7. Thailand

Thailand Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 5
  • Cost of Living: 5
  • Safety: 5
  • Women: 3
  • Food: 5
  • Distance to USA: 1
Thailand Highlights

  • World class nightlife
  • Slow, relaxed lifestyle
  • Wonderful food
  • Warm year round weather
  • Extremely safe
  • Great dental and medical care
  • A beautiful tropical paradise
Thailand, aka the land of smiles, is a world class retirement destination for men of all ages. Great weather, healthy food, extreme safety and beautiful women attract men from all over the world each year.

Thailand is an amazing place to visit, but we ranked it lower on the list due to several reasons. Firstly, the Thailand visa situation can be a nightmare unless you have $15,000 for the Elite visa. Secondly, foreigners cannot own property in their names under the Kingdom of Thailand. That means your wife’s name will be on any property you own.

This country is known for the beautiful beaches and ruins, the clear waters and of course, Thai cuisine. In Thailand, the cost of living is low and the health care is also affordable as compared to other countries. The town of Krabi is probably the best place to retire since not only is the cost of living low but the crime rate as well.

8. Philippines

The Philippines Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 3
  • Cost of Living: 4
  • Safety: 4
  • Women: 3
  • Food: 3
  • Distance to USA: 1
The Philippines Highlights

  • Easiest place in the world to hook up
  • Warm year round weather
  • Low cost of living
  • Easy going women
  • English is widely spoken
  • Relaxed island lifestyle
  • Simple Visa system
The Philippines is known for many things such as its beautiful islands, friendly locals and quick to bed women. It’s known for being one of the easiest countries in the world to get laid.

Thousands of American men retire in the Philippines each year due to their relaxed visa system. You can extend your visa for up to 3 years without living the country. This unique feature makes the Philippines a popular spot for black men.

The Philippines is known for fresh seafood which comes at very low price and the beautiful beaches. The cost of living is quite low. It is possible to make due in this country with $700 dollars per month.

9. Ghana

Ghana Ratings

  • Happiness Factor: 3
  • Cost of Living: 4
  • Safety: 2
  • Women: 5
  • Food: 4
  • Distance to USA: 1
Ghana highlights

  • A booming economy
  • Great beaches
  • Economic hub of West Africa
  • Beautiful, loyal women
Ghana is becoming one of the most influential countries in Africa and its economy is set to boom. Although the majority of tourists are on vacation, over 3,000 African americans have moved to Ghana and called it home.

It offers a warm year round climate in West Africa where you can experience life in the motherland with more modern amenities than the Gambia.

Ghana does have its safety issues, which is why we ranked it much lower on the list. The women of Ghana are beautiful and would make great wives and girlfriends.

The cost of living in this country is relatively low throughout the year. The country also borders the Atlantic Ocean, a place people have access to and can build houses along the coastline and have that beautiful beach view.

10. Canada
Scandinave-Spa-Whistler.jpg

Scanidave Spa in Vancouver, Canada
  • Happiness Factor: 3
  • Cost of Living: 3
  • Safety: 5
  • Women: 3
  • Food: 3
  • Distance to USA: 5
Canada highlights

  • 1st world economy
  • Close to the USA
  • Very Safe
Canada made the list at #10 because it is a decent option for black men who want to retire outside the Matrix USA. It’s close enough to visit family while giving you all the perks of a 1st world country. The cold winters and lack of black people forced us to rank it last on the list.

The health care is quite affordable as compared to the United States. The city of Quebec is also known for its “quality of life” in that the cost of living there is affordable.

If I had a choice between USA and Canada, then I’d choose Canada. If you want more information on Canada, then read our article on how to move to Canada.

Racist ass spain in the top 5?!
Beautiful country but top 5 for black men eh? Interesting
I heard Spain was racist as hell. Is that untrue?
There are few places on the planet as racist as the USA... Europe has never been as racist as T=the US ... that's why decades ago jazz performers often moved there. There is no place where race is meaningless but you'll feel the sting less in Europe than in the US

It's weird that they would talk about about the quality of women to retirees. At least without mentioning things like stability of banks/ governments and access to hospitals/emergency services.

They did mentioned Canada for its affordable healthcare, but try to get an appointment with a specialist and you'll see why it's so affordable.

I've visited Costa Rica and Columbia this year, I plan on purchasing property in Costa Rica. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.
Is CR one of those places where its cheaper to build a new house than buy an existing? Im in that kinda place now.... so backward from what Im used to... looking for land soon, gonna likely have the Mennonites (Amish) build me something.

It's really expensive to purchase property (in Sao Paulo or Rio) in any area you'd actually want to live.
I would never consider those places... not gonna try to learn Portuguese at my age... English or Spanish or nothing.

I have dual residency there so I'm not shitting on Brazil, but unless you already have a significant reason to be there (family, business, etc), I would imagine that most of those other places on the list would be way better options for most people.

Property is stupid expensive there per square foot. People don't realize that your money will go further in NYC than it will in most parts of Zona Sul in Rio. It's THAT expensive.

Why not simply:
- Retire.
- Build a home.
- Visit those countries at your leisure.
:dunno:

I have thought about this quite a bit, the pros and cons, and quality of life. I have thought many times about what country I would permanently relocate to.

You are right, probably better just to visit different countries at leisure.

I plan on doing World cruises for each continent, and just living in different countries 90 to 180 days at a time.

There is no place like home, don't want to die 1000's of miles from family and friends.

The election of Bolsonaro tells me all I need to know about the people of Brazil and it is enough to make me not move there, not vacation there .... it's just off my radar.

Exactly.
Why would you work hard all your adult life, paid both taxes and into social security and fought racism just to move to a foreign country where you're NOT a citizen nor are you entitled to own land...?
Furthermore, these articles never really address the poverty rates in those countries.
Why not use your retirement to:
- Buy some land of your own here in the USA.
- Build a home (equity) for you, your children and your descendants.
- Enjoy travelling to other countries.

Too many dudes let these types of lists fill their heads with dreams of sun kissed Utopias filled with Beyonce's, Lucy Liu's and Salma Hayek's just waiting on Black men/retirees to come to their countries where they can treat them like kings. o_O

They always want to sell American brothers this image of Brazil:

All these countries are cool and I've been to some of them but you're going to be broke with limited opportunities, not like the U.S and yes some of these countries are really racist more than the U.S and will rob your "happy go lucky" ass is a second. Fuck all that escapism shit there's no place like home and when have you never heard a Black man or men (plural) becoming a billionaire in these countries and education "sucks" in some of these places

in Costa Rica it’s cheaper to build, it’s cheaper to buy land away from the cities, if you want property close to the beach look to the souther pacific part or the atlantic side.

Electric, water, internet are all easy to get. CR is the most connected country in latin america. CR has been running solely on renewable energy for the last 3-4yrs, exactly 50% of the country is protected land that cannot be built on, as such it’s pretty clean.

CR was the next stop from Jamaica during the slave trade, you’ll find tons of black people but mostly on the Atlantic side of the country.

CR is my plan of action at retirement .

As far as Canada, they won’t let you stay if you have certain health conditions; by the time you hit “normal” retirement age you might be ass-out planning to stay there past a visit.
