Dont let these white votes Obama is getting from white people fool you. They just need a reason (in their own minds) not to vote for Obama. If he selects Colin Powel (or ANY Black person) he will be done! They arent going to vote for 2 Black people.... get real.

Obama better select a white male who is very respected to be his VP. Sad, but thats the reality of it... he *may* be able to pull it off with a white female..that will get him the female vote that Hillary is currently getting....

anyone think McCain might pick Collin Powell as v.p.?

I was thinking the same thing looking at this thread..If McCain convinces Powell to run for V.P. on his ticket, Obama is done..Sorry to put it so bluntly but I, you, and everybody else who knows something of US politics understands that these candidates pale in comparison to Powell..In all honesty, Powell should have been our first black president but he refuses to run for office..smart man..anyways people saying two black men on the same ticket wouldnt really work..bullshit..Obama is making a case for sweeping the remaining states and for him to put Powell on his ticket would mean not only democratic votes but a good number of republican votes as well due to Powell being a recognizable and influential figure among moderate and conservative repubs..The analogy that I could try to use is when dems vote for Hillary, they are really voting for Bill...Well if the repubs switch isles and vote for Obama, they are really voting for Powell..hope that makes sense

wow, some of you dont know anything about politics. colin? he doesnt even want to be in politics anymore, and two black men, get serious!

Janet Napolitano-decent choice, woud get women on board, but it might backfire with white men. Too much diversity on the ticket could sway white men to go republic.
Jim Webb-good for military background, but his vote history on bills is not the greatest, and the Democrats need to keep his seat.
Bill Richardson-gets Latino vote, but does not have charisma or public liking
people dont choose vices anymore based on demographics they can get, but someone that is more like them, but less recognized aka clinton, gore, so in that respect...

powell would never run against obama, and doesnt want to stand in his way. hes done with politics, and he certainly wouldnt come back to run against the black candidate. just wont happen

You should add Claire McCaskill to that poll, the senator from Missouri. That would seal up the female vote.

It's got to be Bill Richardson. He was the most experienced dude runnning. He was ambassador to the United Nations, so his foreign relations game, which Obama will be attacked on by McCain will be tight, then Richardson has actually run an state, as governor of New Mexico. Then, most of all, he gets Obama the Latino vote, as Bill Richardson would be the first Latino vice president, and his specialty was in dealing with Nicaragua, Cuba, North Korea, the Sudan, and a whole bunch of countries that the U.S. has some interest in. He has the southwest on lock. That's why even after he dropped out of the race, Bill Clinton was sweatin' him hard, trying to get him to get the Latino vote for his wife.

With Richardson as his running mate he gets all the experience in the world, Latinos, and did I forget, he was the secretary of energy, which is perfect. He automatically wins New Mexico, steals some of Arizona from McCain, California, Florida, and a bunch of other states with Latino voters who will be assuaged by Richardson standing side by side with Obama.

The only drawback would be if some of those white folks didn't want to see a Black man and a Mexican standing side by side getting sworn in, but I don't see how McCain, other than reaching for Colin Powell would get any minority votes from an Obama/Richardson ticket.

COLIN POWELL!! BGOL is the first place I would come if Barack Obama named Colin Powell as his VP. Oh the GIFs that people would come up with  But that's a ticket I would support because even though CP is a Republican, he showed the strength of character to get out of the Bush cabinet when he saw the mess they were pulling

OBAMA/POWELL 2008!!!

Just pictture OJ being questioned. Vice President Simpson do you have a policy on how to deal with the growing problems in Iraq?

Powell is NOT done with politics. I don't think he is a good running mate for Obama. But he certainly has his place in Obama's administration. Perhaps secretaty of state, let him redeem and finish his legacy. Remember Powell was well respected until that fisco at the united nation. Many people still remember him as the only voice of reason in that administration and understand he took a fall for them. I don't think he would want to finish his career on that note..

then you obviously havent seen or read a single statement colin made since leaving the white house. and obama is about cleaning up shop with the same old washington players, he is not about to bring someone from a bush administration to be part of his team. he is about change. damn, you are dumb

Something that nobody has mentioned yet Colin Powell. He would shut the national security portion of the debate down. Technically he is a Repub., but as he has said he will vote for either party if they say the right things. Talking about uniting both parties. Blacks and whites love this guy. However, it was that whole Iraq has weapons of mass destruction thing. lol. I don't know.

^^^HELL NO^^^!!! Please stop sleeping on this dude. He is not who you all have been fed to believe:smh:

Jim Webb all day.

More like it for ^^^ his military experience & a former republican. However, his personality is too dominant IMO. I could see him clashing with Obama a lot.

unless wesley clark is from the south, i'd have 2 go with edwards. 'the o man' is gonna need a southerner to pull that part of the country away from mccain

Please people; the only viable option on the list is Jim Webb. Of everyone listed, he is the only one that truly stuck his head out in support of Senator Obama, and with the help of Gov. Tim Kaine secured victory for Obama in Virginia (a RED state). Moreover, once you dissect the other candidates you will quickly draw a conclusion that they’re not a good option.

For instance, if Edwards were really for change, what in the hell his taking him so long to declare his support for the REAL CHANGE AGENT? Dude is all about himself and what the winner can do for securing him a top political office.

There are several reasons why the position will not be offered to Hillary and why she will not seek the position. First, her craving for ultimate POWER will prevent her for taking second a back seat (Vice President) to Obama (President). More importantly, as depicted by Michelle Obama’s comment and to paraphrase “I’ll have to think long and hard before voting for Hillary” should she win the nomination? Reason being is that the Obamas have seen firsthand how dirty and cut-throat the Clintons are and wants nothing to do with them.

Lastly -- Dodd, Biden and Richardson are total ASSHOLES. They are pissed off that they’ve gotten their asses kicked, not by Hillary, but by a young, Black Junior Senator with considerably less experience and knowledge. This has fueled great animosity and jealousy towards Senator Obama, hence their lack of support and backing for him. A proud and wise Black Man such as Obama can see punk ass mother fuckers likes these a mile away and will ensure he keeps his distance.

Oh, by the way. Wesley Clark has nothing to offer. Don’t be fooled by his title, “General”. I’m in the Army and I know firsthand titles are just that, titles. Besides, he’s a big-time Hillary supporter. One of the many soon to be ‘Ship Jumpers’ who backed Hillary a year before the DAMN Primaries began.

Shit like this tells me that they’re not for supporting the best candidate, but for who is more willing to boost their careers. A costly mistake by hundreds of Black Politicians and former Civil Rights Activists who will see themselves out of a Job/Politics come the next Election Day.

If he does not try to ride rough shod over Obama then I agree Webb would lend credibility to Obama and give him some implied muscle. Webb does not take any S***. Just as long as people keep Powell out of this discussion altogether I'm cool.
