My grandmother's passing has been an interesting transition in that I've had the pleasure of living with them both in the past. They're from my father's side of the family. I never had the opportunity to meet my mom's parents as they passed several decades before I was born. Plus her family's scattered around Los Angeles, India, Victoria, Winnipeg, and Seattle.
As for grandfather ~ he passed away in the early hours of Halloween back on October 31st, 2006. Battled a number of conditions over HIS years. About 15 - 20 hospitalizations in 4.5 years at 5 hospitals + 1 care facility. Colon cancer / dysentery ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysentery ), small strokes, small heart attack, broken right hip + surgery, dementia, and so on. And now with grandmother (just over 1.25 years later) ~ SHE'D long battled heart disease in her family (dad died at 50 / younger brother died 11 years and a week ago at age 58 - extremely healthy man too) ... heart attacks, strokes, numerous falls (with face + head injuries), shortness of breath, fatigue, etc. Real busy body too. Huge network of friends. Social butterfly. Like a cat - 9 lives. Escaped death numerous times. Had a hospitalization in December 2007 and a few others in the past 10 years. Angioplasty completed in 2005. That kind of thing. R.I.P. to my peep' at work + both grandparents AND TO ALL YA'LL AND YOUR MANY LOVED ONES WHO'VE PASSED OVER THE YEARS, BGOL.
