Honestly have the blacks in Philly given up?

Exactly. There aren't any good full time jobs and It's hard working 2 shitty jobs to make ends meet. It's not that hard fighting crime really. All they have to do is keep a track of people who make multiple gun purchases or buy a huge amount of firearms in a 1 month. The odds is they're a straw purchaser and all the ATF/FBI has to do is send that person a letter in the mail stating that they're under investigation for gun trafficking.I can guaranteed you that would scare the straw purchaser silly because they see buying guns and selling them on the street as extra money and not worth serving a very long time in prison.Add cameras in high crime areas that actually work.Add more cops on the street(make the block hot).Execute warrants etc. These pigs are just lazy and don't give a fuck about black people(the majority of the murder victims).Like I said....Fuck the Police!

Well, let's take one level up. How 'bout if they lock up the muthfuckas selling them the guns? OOOPS, can't do that. We may lock up the wrong person in that scenario. You feel me? Locking up street level offenders is like biting off your nose to spite your face. Lock up the people that are bringing guns into the city. Lock up drug trafficers and drug dealers.. Now days they'll lock you up for "trafficing' for a couple ounces or so. Dude, that ain't trafficing. Lock up the cats that are bringing the bricks into the city. Don't wait 'til after they get to the city. Again, you can't do that because you might lock up the wrong person. You feel me?

The basic shit is that people aint really got shit out there....period...and I'm from Philly and was just there a the Puerto Rican parade in North Philly........I'm the rare case though, cuz I'm a West Philly nigga who aint scared to go to South Philly or North or downtown..........Ususally if you from one part of the city, you don't go to other parts......And that's the basic attitude of the people there in a nut shell

Honestly if you could bulldoze North Philly, Southwest, West, West Oak lane, The Badlands, The Bottoms....aw fuck it, Philly needs a cleansing of Katrina porportions. A flood that could just wipe out the niggas and white blue collar trash though

Cosign fam! I'm counting down the days until I move back down south so I dont have to see these stupid fucks! Philly is the only city I know where there is no escaping from ghetto niggas! They are like roaches and they have infested the entire region. I live out on the main line and they even come out here with their white tees, sunni beards and capri pants! I CANT STAND THESE FUCKS!

and it's always been like that FF. Back in the day, when Philly used to have a different kind of gang problem, even if you was from "West" you couldn't go to other parts of "West". You used to have the "Zulu Nation", "Hoops Street", and the "Ant Hill Mob" (not all in West Philly)to name a few. You might catch a beat down but, that was basically it. Now, you catch a hot one. Times have changed man.

where else they gonna go Bruh? they can't afford to live in Bryn Mawr, King of Prussia, Conchahocken(I know I spelled it wrong). It's just a bad situation up the way. A lot of 'em don't know anything but "thug life". It's sad man. I had a great time growing up in Camden/Philly. Philly always has been secularized though. If you lived in Norht Philly, you didn't go up into NE Philly. NE used to be "white boy" territory. if you lived in West Philly, you didn't go to SW Philly. Again, "white boy" territory. And you didn't go to South Philly at all. Well, around 23rd and Tasker was Black but, don't venture out too far. I'll tell you a part of Philly that was always "bad". I mean not violence wise but, just needed to be torn down and started over was 39th and Fairmount. for all the Philly brothers we know it as the "Froggy Bottom". That shit was like North Vietnam even in the 70's. The projects there were the worst. When I was a young boy, I'd take my chances on 22nd and Diamond before I'd go to
the froggy bottom.

We know for the most part for some reason that areas populated predominatly by minorities-particulary blacks-tend to encompass a poor quality of life. Whether its crime, noise or poor schools. But there is no excuse or explanation for the killing these animals are doing in philly.

Needless to say I didnt purchase the "crib"

NOW BEFORE YOU SAY NO... smell this! It used to not bother me so much but they're really spreading out. East Market St. downtown has been taken over by the black hebrews (megaphones and costumes) and muslims. Tourists come in a wonder how the fuck does the ghetto spread all the way downtown.

Excuses are tools of the incompetant and we gotta stop using them! When are we going to start making our people accountable for their actions! Yes, life is hard, unfair and shitty, however that doesn't mean you don't try to make it work for you. When I look at people like Madame CJ Walker, W.E.B Dubois and the cats on Black Wall Street in Oklahoma they all had it rough and life for them was shity and unfair, however they all made it a point to do something proactive with their lives rather than being reactive to their circumstances. As long as we continue to rationalize maladaptive behavior we're going to continue to get the stories we see on the 11o'clock news and niggas will continue being niggas!

Brother all i can say is "don't believe the hype". 95 % of the Black men and women in this city are good, hardworking people. If you watch the news, read the daily news (extremely racist paper by the way), you will come away thinking we are in hell. None of the good things being done are ever talked about. Read the TRIBUNE, avoid all white media.

Think about it. If the Black neighborhoods are so bad, why are so many whites moving into them? Why are Lowes, home depot, etc. opening in Black areas? Why are property values shooting up through the roof?

Don't fall for this game. Read the TRIBUNE, avoid all white media.

So I guess the 400 murders last year were part of the white media conspiracy! Man get off it! I use to be a social worker and I can tell you there are alot of disfuctional niggas in philly. 39th and Fairmnount.... Damn after all these years the Bottom still holds fear in peoples hearts!! That's funny!! I'm from the "Bottom" and still reside here. I'll never move. I seen may fair share of dirt, and I lost countless numbers of freinds due to murders and incarceration, but this is my home. Philly is at a cross roads, the cross-roads of the affulent/upper class and poor. Believe it or not, houses on 39th and Fairmount now sell for 250k and we have a few million dollar homes in neighboring Powelton village, only 4 blocks away lol. Congress woman Janie Blackwell just broke ground on Union and Fairmount (1 block away for 39th and Fairmount) to build 8 new homes.Philly has 3 main issues:

1)Philly doesn't have a good corporate base, The largest employer for Philly is the University of Penn, then Blue cross blue shield, the Post office and lastly comcast. Most other corporation moved to the surrounding regions due to the corporate tax breaks in the early 90's.

2) Education/job training: Philly doesn't have a viable educated work force. For many years this has been a blue collar town where a college education/degree was not required. Now Philly is so competitive due to the lack of job opportunities, you damn near need a masters degree to get a good job.

3) The State of Pennsylvania will not allow Philly to legislate its own gun laws. Most of PA is rural with the exception of Philly, Pittsburg, coastville and Reading. This is a NRA state and hunting, the KKK and rednecks rule it.
Until We fix these problems the murder/crime rate will continue to rise. People want to do better, they not have means to do it with.

Good luck with that!! A few weeks ago they had a town houses in BT on HGTV, as you know they sell for 300k. So that means shells are now selling for 65 - 80k. At one point shells in U city were selling from 75-125k, houses list in UCity sell from 345 - 550k.

you know your realty brugh. Only thing about those shells is that you have to come with cash or have stellar credit then apply for a construction loan. Right now if I drop 65k I'd need to have it rented out as soon as possible to start recouping.

I grew up in the in the western suburbs my family is from the main line. From Ardmore to Malvern then to West Chester. I live in west Oak Lane when I was married in the Early '90's. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of Philly!! I finally had enough when I found out the cops had a stolen car ring going on(they stole my Blazer) and the were running an illegal pawn shop at broad and Allegeny! That city has been fucked up forever!!!!

The sad thing is in the 1800's Philly was the place where black folks wanted to be. Duboise wrote his book the Philadelphia Negro because blacks were doing so well in the city. South street area and what is society hill was all black into the 1900's then that's when everything started going down hill with the gentrification. Just like what's happening now. This time they really have blacks by the balls because of section 8. These niggas are going as far put as west Chester and fucking things up.:smh::smh::smh:

Woman in Philly act like you owe them something for just speaking to them. I would really like to know what the rate of single black woman in Philly really is. The fucked up attitude is scary here. And don't let a chic be half way decent looking, she a straight up dickhead! The bro's in philly tolerate that shit and just throw money at these bitches like they're the shit.
When I go into the city I don't even look twice at those ho's. And if she works for SEPTA oh she thinks she's the shit!!!!

To answer your question: they haven't given up. That would imply that they actually tried at some point!

fuck philly right now.. niggas here are retarded, you got parents droppin there kids off to beat up people, and cuttin eachother up, this place is fucked up right now.. i heard a 14yr old girl the other day, in the store talking about how she sucked some dude dick.

These young bitches are on some bum rush shit. They jack other young bitches at bus/train stops on the regular. The incident where the girl got her face cut up was near West Philly high. In the past 15 years they had 16 new principals. Ain't that some shit?

I now love my home city from a far. I grew up in Philly and went to college at FAMU and I decided to stay in Florida because Philly just wasn't for me anymore. I wanted to come back to Philly to go to Temple Law School but I couldn't bring myself to do it and decided to go to Law School in Florida. Leaving Philly to go to school was the best thing for me because it allowed me to visit dozens of other cities which in turn made me start to look at Philly from a different view point. Mostly all Philly heads are on some want to be thug type persona. And the sad thing is that a 32 year old man will try to live out this persona as much as a 20 year old. The mentality of most seem to never mature over the years and it gets sad after awhile. A 32 year old man shouldn't be trying to emulate Beanie Sigel and dress like he is still in High School. Every post about Philadelphia on this board seems to be dedicated to trashing my city and I wish I could rebut these claims but unfortunately I have felt like many others do for awhile.

If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem. Most people, black or white, turn to crime because they believe there is no other way. Its easy to say education is the way out but if someone believes deep down they are inferior, then that's their reality. Their outlook on life makes it so. Change their outlook and then you can change their reality.

I used to live in Philly on 55th and Spruce..
Southwest used to be the shit. This was 80's early 90's.. Philly took a wrong turn somewhere.. Dont know where, but the hate in that city is serious now.
When I visit I stay at the Airport or a hotel in Pennrose. My Pop grew up in philly and he moved the hell out to landsdowne. Which is now starting to get a trickle effect of ignant ass dudes.

I just dont get why the self esteem in that city is in the pots. The people are to blame.. It's their fault the city is in shambles, policy and policing can only go so far. The people have to make the real changes.

That has ALWAYS been true since time immemorial.

..sounds like the beginning stages of gentrification.
You don't know.

Philly is where gentrification was invented. The "Reform" Democrats came into power in the 1950's, on a platform based on "revitalizing" the city: Richardson Dilworth, Joe Clark, Edmund Bacon, Albert M Greenfield, etc.

They started with the Independence Mall and Society Hill projects. That area was nothing but waterfront dives and skid row before that. They progressed from there to the Penn Center and Market Street East projects.

The city built concentration camps like the infamous East Falls Housing Project to housed displaced families in an Amerikkkan version of Ethnic Cleansing.

Meanwhile, the University of Pennsylvania was gobbling up West Philly. Temple University cloned that act in North Philly. Drexel Institute got squeezed to the North by Penn toward East Powelton.

The problem was that East Village wasn't a slum; for that matter, neither were some parts of West Philly around U. of P. So crime had to be "promoted" to devalue the properties.

.........

In case you are wondering, NO! Black people did not take this lying down. Every one from Cecil B. Moore and Rev. Leon Sullivan to the Black Muslims, the Black Panthers, and John Africa organized for self determination in the Black Community. The cities response was to appoint fascist bigot Frank Rizzo as the new Police Commissioner. He went to war against the Black Panthers and MOVE, while honing police corruption into an art form. Yes, before Rizzo, police in Philadelphia drove red cars, walked beats, and rode horses downtown. Rizzo brought SWAT to Philly, invited Huey Newton to a "Showdown" at high noon on Broad Street, etc.

The scroll bar has started shrinking - that's the Colin Powell warning. I gotta cut this rant off.

Fact is, Philly isn't as bad as some people in this thread would like you to believe. They are just buying into and re-amplifying the media hype. Before some Simp mentions 400+, let me just say that the situation was worse in the sixties, and there were more cop killings in Philly in 1777 than there were in 2007.

Main Liners have always hated the townies, and Philly is a Democratic ghetto surrounded by the Republican 'burbs.

Peace brugh and congrats. I'm definetly not trying to diss Philadelphia. I think the city has so much potential. Its actually a beautiful city, sort of a smaller NYC. I just have a problem with blacks in this city and the fact they make up every hood suffocating everyone's quality of life
