Yep. Shit turned into a mini riot after the ball dropped.
Same here. I was about five blocks from the ball packed like sardines and could barely see the ball. Horrible night, but at least I have a story to tell.
We went to a club afterwards named Bentley's back then. Took us two hours to get in.
So tight I couldn't move, like couldn't lift my arm. I had a anxiety attack, I get antsy when I can't move. Shit was crazy. And like I said, after the ball dropped, shit got wild. Fighting, people throwing bottles. Shit was crazy.

Went for coming into '01. My wife who was girlfriend at the time had never been. Got as close as 48th and Broadway. The fly shit is the half hour in the new year when it feels like a championship parade in Midtown, since the championship parades normally happen in Tribeca, A boring ass neighborhood for a parade.

I was working at Broadway and Chambers during the Giants parade in early '08. Streets felt calm as fuck. Now if they =ever had a championship parade in Times Square like they should, oh boy.
Seen the wildest shoot out outside of Bentley's on New Years back in the day forgot where the ball at those side streets was crazy
Times Square back in the 80s around that time however was a different story..always used to post up near the subway entrance

When I lived in NYC for a couple of years I had a chance to see the ball drop in at a place owned/rented by Rosario Dawson. Best experience I could imagine. Basically right there across the street watching it in a private setting with a bunch of actors and artist. I literally felt like a king looking down on my subjects I the streets. I told myself that day I would never watch it drop from the streets and still never will.

Once. A friend had booked a room at the Sofitel Hotel with a perfect view. He had reserved it 6 months in advance. We went to a Broadway show, dinner and had to show our room key to get through the police lines. I almost froze, but the room was nice and warm. And the view was great.
