My issue is in how he and others know the word isn’t a racial slur, yet, knowing how close it is in sound they still use it. It feels underhanded, sneaky. Years ago at a job I dipped on a promise I had made with a coworker. He said, multiple times that I reneged on the deal. He said it twice. Then said, Had he known I was a reneger he wouldn’t have offered it in the first place. Took everything in me to not go off. They know how close it sounds. So fuck him for saying either way. We all know a bitch is a female dog, but c’mon son. Niggardly, in this political climate????

He's really not fam. Sure he has faults... for one thing he's continuing this trend of geriatric white candidates... I'm tired of that shit. For another he misfired on his "identity politics" quote like a typical CAC (although it's very clear to me he's a decent, actively non-racist person)... the fantasy of "id pol" can only be wrested from the imagination of white people who don't understand that their whiteness is inherently political as a social/institutional "norm" and he needs to do better there.

On the reparations thing, acknowledging how politically untenable reparations are in this climate doesn't make one racist... we'd have to pretend Obama was racist in that case as he made the same argument when he ran.

Beyond that dude is very clearly the leader of this Dem field in the early innings and he has outstanding policy positions. I like a few other candidates and time will tell how this all shakes out but the anti Bernie arguments around here aren't very compelling imo :cool:

What was the right side of saying identity politics are wrong?
What was the right side of saying just because white people won’t vote for a candidate solely because he’s black doesn’t make them racist.

Misfiring on identity politics is trying to undersell what happened and I'm not a Bernie hater or supporter just like last time. But why misfire in favor of white people? Feel me?
He's decent we agree. Actively non racist we agree. But inactive racism can be just as catastrophic as active racism - See people who sat out the election because he wasn't in and allowed an active racist to win knowing they'd be alright cause they all white.

Reparations isn't anymore politically untenable than medicare for all and getting rid of all the college debt in this political climate however he doesn't hesitate to state we can just cut the check and the problem goes away.
We can't compare Bernie to Obama on this issue for the simple fact that Obama is black Bernie is white. White people listen to white people and disrespect black people as we saw his entire 2 term presidency, in a way that literally harms the country.

He is the leader of the dem field right now. We have to let it play out.
Just like how I didn't like people swearing allegiance to Hillary last time before Bernie and others were allowed to even express their views, I feel the same way for Bernie. Let everyone throw their hat in and get time and then we go from there.

I'm not dude's PR agent and I'm certainly under no illusions that he's perfect but goddamn if that isnt the pettiest list for the most part :lol:

The nuclear waste fiasco was definitely poor judgement and is legitimately embarrassing for him. I've also already spoken to the id pol thing above... that was retarded on his part. Bernie is a politician and sometimes his pandering bullshit is what it is... I'm cynical enough to acknowledge these guys will pander to their audience (read: potential Trump voters) to try and flip them (a total waste of time imo)... his efforts to assuage these racist folks that they voted their conscience with no racist intent was a dumb strategy and I hope he abandons that noise this time around.

I'm on board that this needs to play out bruh... there are candidates I'm watching closely who have really compelling policy prescriptions but attacks like these "he said niggardly in 1982! Racist!" are on some Fox News boomer shit and I can't get with it.

You don't have to convince me that Reparations are a moral necessity. They've been due. It's stunning that this country refuses to even have the conversation but that's where we are politically rn. We're living in a country that pretends there are no systemic or institutional reasons for disparities among black and white people... hell I've read posts from purportedly "black" people here that welfare and "handouts" account for these disparities. Shit is incredible.

Having said all that there are a number of policy ideas that will move us all forward and Bernie happens to champion them. There's nothing wrong with pressuring these candidates to do better, especially during the primaries, but the critique needs to be substantive.
