Dana Carvey Returns to SNL as Church Lady to Weigh in on 2016: ‘Jesus Is Not on The Ballot!’

On Saturday Night Live this weekend, legendary sketch comedian and SNL alum Dana Carvey returned to 30 Rock as one of his most well-known characters: The Church Lady.

Carvey’s turn as the holier-than-thou Church Lady returned to Weekend Update to give her opinion about the state of the 2016 race, slamming host Colin Jost in the process. “You’re staying up making jokes about Anthony’s weiner!” she alleged.

And of course, no appearance by Church Lady is complete without her signature, “Well isn’t that special,” which was worked into the bit with a special election twist.
Carvey last appeared on SNL as Church Lady in May, a character that he performed and perfected on the venerable late night sketch show in the late 80s.

Baldwin, as Trump, locked a steely hand shake with guest star Jason Sudeikis, who reprised his 2012 election role as former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney. The fictional meetup ended after the handshake.

“This isn’t going to work, is it,” Romney said.

The meeting lasted for more than an hour Saturday afternoon as the twomoved past their bitter rivalry to discuss global affairs.

Although Trump told reporters staked outside the club that the meeting “went great,” it’s unclear if Romney will land a position in the new administration.

SNL ‘Bubble’ skit about liberals in denial over Trump was perfect

By Chris Cillizza November 20 at 10:35 AM

When Donald Trump won the White House 12 days ago, there was a very common sentiment expressed along the east and west coasts of the country: How?

After all, no one they knew had voted for Trump. In fact, he was a punchline for jokes to many of them. In a race between Trump and Hillary Clinton, it wasn't even a contest for them.

That disconnect with the rest of the country is the subject of a brilliant sendup of head-in-the-sand-ism among liberals in the new Trump world on last night's “Saturday Night Live.” It envisions a literal bubble where “life can continue for progressive Americans just as before.”

The Bubble is “a community of like-minded free thinkers....and no one else” where hybrid cars, used-book stores and “small farms with the rawest milk you've ever tasted” dominate.

SNL's skewering of liberal reaction to Trump's election runs counter to a tweet the president-elect sent this morning blasting the show.

Watch SNL go after Trump’s Cabinet picks — by introducing Walter White as the head of DEA

By Elahe Izadi December 11 at 10:24 AM

“Saturday Night Live” didn’t begin with its familiar construction of Alec Baldwin impersonating President-elect Donald Trump, but the show still brought in some outside star power for its cold open.

In a sketch focusing on Trump’s controversial Cabinet picks, Bryan Cranston reprised his “Breaking Bad” character Walter White to play the incoming president’s nominee to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“Walter is amazing, he came highly recommended by Steve Bannon,” Kellyanne Conway (Kate McKinnon) says.

“Oh, yeah. Steve’s the best. We’ve had some times,” White said. “We met on the comments section on Breitbart.”

[A guide to all the ways Trump’s transition is like a reality show]

White, introduced as a high school science teacher from New Mexico, said he didn’t know Trump but, “I like his style. He acts first and then asks questions later. I also like that wall he wants to build. Nothing comes in from Mexico, meaning a lot less competition for the rest of us.”

Jake Tapper (Beck Bennett) asked, “You mean jobs?”

“Sure,” White slyly responded.

White said that “it’s time to make America cook again. We want to fill this nation with red, white and a whole lot of blue.”

Tapper listed off other real-life Trump picks, including Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. (Pruitt has sued the EPA on climate change several times).

“Scott Pruitt is excited for the job and ready to protect us all from the environment,” Conway says in the sketch.

“It’s almost like Mr. Trump appoints these people specifically to undermine the very agencies they head,” Tapper says. “Kellyanne, are these bad picks?”

“No Jake, they are not bad,” she answers. “They are alt-good.”

[Trump isn’t the first president ‘Saturday Night Live’ has skewered. But this feud stands out.]

The day's most important stories.

Unlike in previous weeks, Trump didn’t tweet his criticism of the show. We were falling into a pattern, with Baldwin appearing as Trump and then, inevitably, the real-life Trump publicly weighing in, calling SNL “biased, not unfunny.” He also called the show “unwatchable,” even as he continued to watch.

But this weekend’s show was different. Baldwin didn’t appear. And Trump didn’t criticize the show.

That doesn’t mean SNL didn’t tackle Trump and make biting jokes at his expense. Aside from the cold open, Weekend Update brought on McKinnon to play German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was 2015 Time’s “Person of the Year.” In 2016, Trump was named “Person of the Year.”

“It kind of undermines the honor for me,” McKinnon-as-Merkel said. “It’s like winning the Nobel for physics, and then the next year they give it to Hoobastank.”

Donald Trump is Russia's 'Manchurian candidate' as 'Saturday Night Live' debuts John Goodman as oil mogul Rex Tillerson
BYNICOLE HENSLEY
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Updated: Sunday, December 18, 2016, 1:50 AM

Donald Trump may be America’s gift to Russia.

A shirtless Vladimir Putin shimmied into Trump Tower through a chimney to finally meet his President-elect on the latest holiday-themed episode of “Saturday Night Live.”

“We in Russia, we are so happy that you’re U.S. president. We think you are the best candidate, the smartest candidate — the Manchurian candidate," said SNL cast member Beck Bennett, as the Russian leader.

The sketch show brought actor Alec Baldwin back to the set to taunt Trump and the Russian hack job that may have played a part in Trump’s November election victory. Both FBI Director James B. Comey and Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper Jr. sided with a CIA assessment that Russia meddled in the close race, officials said Friday.

The Kremlin has denied its involvement in the U.S. election.

snl18n-4-web.jpg

Saturday Night Live's cold open saw John Goodman's Rex Tillerson plot with Beck Bennett's Vladimir Putin as Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump looked on.
(NBC)
SNL’s interpretation of Russia’s strongman snuck into Trump’s Manhattan office like Santa Claus to deliver a Christmas present — an Elf on the Shelf.

“It’s fun, you just put it right here next to your internet router,” Putin said of the suspicious holiday toy, depicted in a children's book as a spy for Santa.

An NBC report alleged Putin, a former KGB agent, personally oversaw the hacking operation to help Trump win, and as a result, regain its economic footing globally — possibly through oil dealings as depicted by SNL.

Putin appeared to lose all eyes for Baldwin’s Trump the moment Exxon Mobil Corp Chief Executive Rex Tillerson walked through the door.

snl18n-3-web.jpg

Bennett's Putin give Baldwin's Trump a suspicious gift.
(NBC)
The oil mogul, portrayed by actor John Goodman, shared a secret handshake with Putin and gushed over future oil plans during the cold open. After all, the President-elect’s secretary of state picked was honored with Russia’s Order of Friendship in 2013 after signing a deal with Russian oil company Rosneft to drill in the Arctic’s Kara Sea.

Trump was silent on Twitter following Baldwin’s appearance — unlike the tirade bashing Baldwin and the NBC show he unleashed in the middle of SNL and again the following morning, earlier this month.

Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost said Trump repeatedly shrugging off the former Cold War rival’s hacking allegations would be comparable to President Franklin D. Roosevelt saying “we don’t know it was Japan” after the Pearl Harbor attack.

“It could have been some fat guy on a couch somewhere,” Jost mused.

Hillary Clinton still hasn't given up.#SNL

1:07 AM - 18 Dec 2016
Although cast member Kate McKinnon has mostly resigned her portrayal of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for Trump’s senior advisor Kellyanne Conway, she returned in lampooning “Love Actually.”

McKinnon, as Clinton, offered to buy off an electoral voter with a $1,000 check to protest Trump’s election win.

“You don’t even have to vote for me. I’m coo,” Clinton said, fumbling through a stack of cue cards like Andrew Lincoln’s character in the 2003 Christmas flick. “Just vote for literally anyone else, like John Kasich, Tom Hanks, The Rock — a rock.”

The Electoral College — 538 men and women — is expected to cast their votes for Trump on Monday. If they fail to confirm Trump’s electoral win, Jost’s co-host Michael Che predicts Trump will react like a chimpanzee with a machine gun — poorly.

“Enjoy your holiday but keep in mind, if Donald Trump becomes president, he will kill us all,” the faux Clinton added.

“If Donald Trump becomes president he will kill us all”

For Kate McKinnon‘s Hillary Clinton, the “to me you are perfect” scene from Love Actually provided an excellent vehicle to confront a member of the Electoral College on Saturday Night Live.

Since the election, several people have urged Republican members of the Electoral College to not cast their votes for President-elect Donald Trump on Dec. 19. Trump is expected to surpass the 270 votes required to become president after winning 306 electoral votes on election day.

Clinton, played by McKinnon on SNL, decides to take matters into her own hands and shows up at an elector’s door with an armful of poster boards “because it’s Christmas,” mocking the classic Love Actually scene where Mark (played by Andrew Lincoln) confesses his love to Juliet (played by Keira Knightley), who is married to his best friend.

“I know you’re an elector,” she says via the posters. “And on December 19th, you’re supposed for vote for Donald Trump. But bish he cray.”

The subsequent posters were a seemingly endless list of reasons why Trump should not be president as Clinton urged the elector to vote for anyone else. Suggestions included John Kasich, Tom Hanks, Zendaya, The Rock or just a Rock.

SNL Cold Open Skewers Trump’s Press Conference and His ‘Big Russian Pee-Pee Party’

Tonight, the comedy writers at Saturday Night Live ruthlessly mocked President-elect Donald Trump once again, this time over his dumpster-fire of a press conference and the allegations that Trump is being blackmailed by the Russian government. Allegedly, the Kremlin has a video of Trump demanding several Russian prostitutes to perform a “golden shower” on the bed once slept in by President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle, and a possible second tape containing more vanilla sexual acts from a different incident.

The allegations were deemed credible enough to present to President Obama. The scandal, dubbed “Pissgate” by social media, has been the source of hilarity and endless mocking by citizens on Facebook and Twitter; tonight, America’s premier sketch comedy show has taken a crack at it.

30 Rock star Alec Baldwin returned to do his excellent Donald Trump impersonation. Baldwin opens with a somber reminder: “Yes, this is real life, and yes, this is really happening” and finishes with a flourish: “Thank you all for peeing here!” In between jokes about the lack of inauguration and how he doesn’t want to talk about the “pee-pee” incident (“I will be bringing back a thick stream of jobs! I’m a major whiz!”), his sons make an appearance, dubbed “Beavis and Butthead.”

“Look at those two little American psychos! You can tell how good businessmen they are by how slicked-back their hair is.” jokes Baldwin.

The skit is hilarious and some much needed levity after a dark and depressing week. We can expect an angry Trump tweetstorm within the next six hours.

Watch it here:

This episode’s going to be huuuge!

Alec Baldwin will return to the “Saturday Night Live” stage again on Feb. 11, this time as host, marking his 17th gig as the main attraction.

That night’s monologue from Studio 8H will give Baldwin the record for most times hosting.

He has appeared on “SNL” a number of times over the course of the election cycle, as a guest, channeling the 45th president, Donald Trump.

Baldwin’s portrayal of Trump has not been received well by the new president, who on Jan. 15 tweeted, “.@NBCNews is bad but Saturday Night Live is the worst of NBC. Not funny, cast is terrible, always a complete hit job. Really bad television!”

On Dec. 4, 2016, he tweeted, “Just tried watching Saturday Night Live - unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad.”

It’s likely that when Baldwin returns to the stage, Trump will counter any impersonation with a slew of harshly critical tweets.

The most recent Baldwin turn found the actor aiming the satire at Trump’s first press conference, which featured a segment dedicated to a discussion on Trump’s apparent lack of conflicts of interest.

Alec Baldwin absent from post-inauguration SNL

Baldwin did not portray Trump in the latest, post-inauguration episode of “SNL” hosted by Aziz Ansari. However, cast member Beck Bennett appeared as Vladimir Putin and addressed America by saying, “(Donald), you’re not off to a great start, man. I thought you’d be better at this!”

SNL Just Shredded Trump’s Press Secretary Sean Spicer
245b77234e67e417ac749c1df83db82a

By Natalie Dickinson
Posted on February 5, 2017

In this amusing clip from tonight’sepisode of Saturday Night Live, Donald Trump’s press secretary is brutally lampooned as a high-voiced and literal tiny talking head. Actress Melissa McCarthy dons a wig and steps into the role of Press Secretary Sean Spicer with an incredible impersonation that is just as perfect as Baldwin’s Trump.

Channeling this administration’s hostility towards the press and the White House’s affinity for “alternative facts,” the clip mocks the exercises in absurdity that are Spicer’s daily press conferences.

Spicer is perpetually having to rewrite the truth and backtrack on his own statements to cover up the fact that his boss is an ideological weather vane, and this clip is the penultimate satirizing of the ridiculousness that is the new reality in Washington.

Actor Alec Baldwin offered this advice to President Trump during an interview with USA TODAY's Bryan Alexander.

Alec Baldwin has Twitter advice for Donald Trump. Back away from the tweets, for your own good.

Baldwin speaks from experience, having quit Twitter in 2013 before returning with a much more subdued style of tweeting. It's a difficult medium filled with trolls and criticism.

"The President of the United States should have his office do the tweeting," Baldwin tells USA TODAY. "I had a very strange relationship with Twitter, because in the beginning, I thought it was an opportunity for me to communicate directly with my audience. And I tried to do that. Therefore when people picked a fight with me, whether they were mean to me or they spit on me in the digital world, I got angry. And I would get into these rants with people. And I stopped and said to myself, ‘What the hell am I doing?’ And you let it go."

"No matter what you do, you’re never going to be able to control the opinions of all of these people," says Baldwin, who lampoons the president on Saturday Night Live and has sparred with Trump on Twitter. "They hate, because that is what they need to do, my political opposites."

Instead of Twitter attacks, Trump should rise in the morning and think about taking care of the American people, Baldwin says.

"I think, ‘What would I do if I were president?’" says Baldwin, who plays a hard-nosed businessman in a baby's body in his upcoming animated movie The Boss Baby (in theaters March 31). "If I were president, I would really wake up every day and think, 'How can I help the most people in this country get ahead?' "

In Baldwin's mind, Trump isn't capable of that.

"I just don’t think Trump has the physical or intellectual or spiritual — let me emphasize spiritual — energy to do the job," Baldwin says. "Which is why I think we are where we are right now."
