The Eagles re-signed Sam Bradford to a two-year deal on Tuesday, giving the team stability and direction at quarterback heading into the 2016 season.
Bradford's deal is worth $36 million, with $26 guaranteed, according to a league source.
The deal came just minutes after the deadline to use the franchise and transition tags, and just six days before Bradford could negotiate with other teams.
Bradford, 28, was the No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft. The Eagles acquired him last March in a deal that included Nick Foles and the team's 2016 second-round pick. Bradford came ff two major knee injuries and was limited for much of the offseason. He started Week 1, though, and played 14 games for the Eagles. Bradford finished with a 65 percent completion percentage, while throwing for 3,725 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Although Chip Kelly was fired in December, Bradford received praise from new coach Doug Pederson and executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman in recent months. The team wanted Bradford back in Philadelphia, and this deal ensures that happens.
Nine players reportedly received the franchise tag: Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins, Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, Bills tackle Cordy Glenn, Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey, Panthers cornerback Josh Norman, Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller, Chiefs safety Eric Berry, and Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson. Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon received the transition tag.
More information to come.
