Free' Windows 10 Upgrades Kill Priceless Windows 8 And Windows 7 Features

Who the fuck still has a floppy drive?

None of these are huge features. You fell for the click bait.

The free upgrade is a great move for Microsoft in general. For the users too.

Question: I used to be more into technology and built/upgraded all my PCs but I really fell off with it when I started my business.

With the 2 machines that run XP, it almost doesn't make sense to upgrade the hardware, I should probably just build new & transfer files, movies, & music.

What do yall do with old motherboards, cpu's, & complete machines?

Normally, I do a secure erase and recycle old hardware. I'm not much of a tinkerer, I don't have time to play with old hard ware.

But, you can use those older computers as a backup, keep a copy of all your file on there. Or sync from the new laptop.

Or you can use it as a media PC ( if you can find the hard ware ), install your favorite media center ( xbmc / plex / ps3 media server )

Install Linux on the older machines, learn something new.

You might even be able to use them as a router. I think Astaro still offers software that can turn your PC into a router. You would need to purchase a network card for this.

If you have young children you can install Qimo onto the older computers and let them use it.

I really see no reason to move away from Windows 7. I'll stick with that and a Linux Mint dual boot.

Win8 is a disaster. My wife has damn near thrown her laptop out a window a few times.

windows 8 is not a disaster and anyone still complaining about it needs to learn how to learn again.

The Metro UI, swipes and gestures are cool if that's what you intentionally want and install

But having it forced in a OS to people who most likely want simple ways to get to their programs is a big fault.

There are a sea of complaints of people who have lost countless hours of productivity and loss work. Thats not what an OS is supposed to do.

People rather not dig in the settings or update the registry to remove stuff they didn't want in the first place, they would rather just downgrade or work on something else.

Microsoft forgot about KISS

Market Share of Windows 7 Windows 7 57.76%
Market Share of Windows XP Windows XP 14.60%
<b>Market Share of Windows 8.1 Windows 8.1 12.88%</b>
Market Share of Mac OS X 10.10 Mac OS X 10.10 4.20%
<b>Market Share of Windows 8 Windows 8 3.57%</b>
Market Share of Windows Vista Windows Vista 2.01%
Market Share of Linux Linux 1.57%
Market Share of Mac OS X 10.9 Mac OS X 10.9 1.47%
Market Share of Mac OS X 10.6 Mac OS X 10.6 0.60%

3 years after launch and with Win10 on the horizon...this is a disaster. It would be even worse if Win8 was not forced on every new laptop/desktop and XP support was not dropped.

i am a power user. i make a living off of using computers and associated systems. i am literally using a computer up to and over 12 hours a day sometimes.

windows 8 required a learning curve. it was not a difficult learning curve. people just didn't want to learn how to do something a little bit different.

anyone who lost any significant amount of productivity and work just wanted to bitch about M$.

M$ did a very poor job of marketing with win8. it is nowhere near as shitty as people make it out to be. after learning how to use win8 going back to win7 is a large step back. win8 has many under the hood improvements and for traditional users the swipe gestures are not necessary in win8.1.

people just like to pile on. it was nowhere near as bad a people made it out to be. and if people felt that bad about it there were free and super inexpensive ways to bring back the start menu.

edit:

and there is no more simple way to get to your programs than hitting start and typing the first three letters (at most) of the program or pinning it to your start screen. that is much more simple than going through a start menu.

edit 2: adoption wise win8 is a disaster. the actual os is solid.

Hey Brownturd I don't know how you did it but you need to log off of voyuer's account man.

M$ did what they needed to do to get the masses on board. i don't blame them one bit for making it more 'user friendly.'

win10 at least has the tech media behind it. and that is where m$ messed up the first time. marketing is much better this time.

and keeping it real win10 is just as much a departure from win7 as win8 is. i have been running the beta for months and people that had trouble adopting to 8 will have just as much trouble adopting to 10.

Anyone start using it yet?

Peace

I've been running the Tech Preview since November. Saturday I got the full version via Windows Automatic Update. Shit is on point. A couple of their updates were big misses but the full update looks like all the tweaks are in place. I give it a thumbs up.

did you do the update or clean install?

been running it for about a month now on all 3 of our pc's. my wife complained for a few days but once she found office the internet and how to print she was straight.my son loves it cause he can download games onto his laptop like he do his tablets. its had 3 or 4 updates now so seem like all the bugs are gone. didnt do a clean install on none of em just ran it as an upgrade. got too many hacked and free programs to be starting over

They don't want to appear to be behind in relation to Apple development w their mac OS 10. I like linux, but to me the graphical interface is wack. Regardless, if ms get too crazy I'll switch Ubuntu.

I tried to run Ubuntu on my DJ laptop, but I couldn't get a driver for my Console. If not for that though I'd be on the penguin too.

Max out the ram and switch the hard drive with an SSD. If you still can't use it you can at least resell on eBay as "refurbished".

Better upgrade those to at least windows7..XP has been dead for a while now and not supported. You guys are wide open for the worst shit the internet can throw at you at this point.

So the important question is, when will support for Windows 7/Vista end, for those that don't want to upgrade to Win 10?

Separate DVD player? Just use VLC.
Windows 7 Gadgets were disabled way back in the days for security flaws. Use Rainmeter...it's more customizable and better.

If you running a cracked OS how is it running?

these coming str8 from microsoft....with it all being free no need for cracked. i downloaded the pro version on their website since my computer came installed with windows 7 home basic or whatever that shit was called. if not mistaken there is only gonna be two versions now

A lot of high priced software (high five and six figures price tag) have a license file stored on floppies. As most computers don't have them anymore, they're an additional barrier of protection that prevent software pirating.

A lot of the automotive, laser etching and vinyl cut software use them in addition with a hardware dongle (some require the old LPT printer ports).
