Question: I used to be more into technology and built/upgraded all my PCs but I really fell off with it when I started my business.
With the 2 machines that run XP, it almost doesn't make sense to upgrade the hardware, I should probably just build new & transfer files, movies, & music.
What do yall do with old motherboards, cpu's, & complete machines?
Normally, I do a secure erase and recycle old hardware. I'm not much of a tinkerer, I don't have time to play with old hard ware.
But, you can use those older computers as a backup, keep a copy of all your file on there. Or sync from the new laptop.
Or you can use it as a media PC ( if you can find the hard ware ), install your favorite media center ( xbmc / plex / ps3 media server )
Install Linux on the older machines, learn something new.
You might even be able to use them as a router. I think Astaro still offers software that can turn your PC into a router. You would need to purchase a network card for this.
If you have young children you can install Qimo onto the older computers and let them use it.
windows 8 is not a disaster and anyone still complaining about it needs to learn how to learn again.
The Metro UI, swipes and gestures are cool if that's what you intentionally want and install
But having it forced in a OS to people who most likely want simple ways to get to their programs is a big fault.
There are a sea of complaints of people who have lost countless hours of productivity and loss work. Thats not what an OS is supposed to do.
People rather not dig in the settings or update the registry to remove stuff they didn't want in the first place, they would rather just downgrade or work on something else.
Microsoft forgot about KISS

3 years after launch and with Win10 on the horizon...this is a disaster. It would be even worse if Win8 was not forced on every new laptop/desktop and XP support was not dropped.
dude you are on our own in this... even Microsoft Don't agree with you...i am a power user. i make a living off of using computers and associated systems. i am literally using a computer up to and over 12 hours a day sometimes.
windows 8 required a learning curve. it was not a difficult learning curve. people just didn't want to learn how to do something a little bit different.
anyone who lost any significant amount of productivity and work just wanted to bitch about M$.
M$ did a very poor job of marketing with win8. it is nowhere near as shitty as people make it out to be. after learning how to use win8 going back to win7 is a large step back. win8 has many under the hood improvements and for traditional users the swipe gestures are not necessary in win8.1.
people just like to pile on. it was nowhere near as bad a people made it out to be. and if people felt that bad about it there were free and super inexpensive ways to bring back the start menu.
edit:
and there is no more simple way to get to your programs than hitting start and typing the first three letters (at most) of the program or pinning it to your start screen. that is much more simple than going through a start menu.
edit 2: adoption wise win8 is a disaster. the actual os is solid.

Hey Brownturd I don't know how you did it but you need to log off of voyuer's account man.

Anyone start using it yet?
Peace
did you do the update or clean install?I've been running the Tech Preview since November. Saturday I got the full version via Windows Automatic Update. Shit is on point. A couple of their updates were big misses but the full update looks like all the tweaks are in place. I give it a thumbs up.

agreed and am sure BlackLS430 will have the BGOL Win10 Pro Edition any damn way...

They don't want to appear to be behind in relation to Apple development w their mac OS 10. I like linux, but to me the graphical interface is wack. Regardless, if ms get too crazy I'll switch Ubuntu.

Better upgrade those to at least windows7..XP has been dead for a while now and not supported. You guys are wide open for the worst shit the internet can throw at you at this point.
If you running a cracked OS how is it running?
