SAN ANTONIO -- The Spurs continued their run of good fortune Monday by luring free agent David West for what sources confirmed to ESPN's Marc Stein's will be the veterans minimum of about $1.5 million for next season.

West spent the past four seasons with the Indiana Pacers, but he opted out of a deal that would have paid him $12 million for 2015-16.


The fool is leaving 10.5 million dollars on the table for a chance to win a $50k ring.

West has earned $88 million playing basketball alone , not counting endorsements.

He might be a rational person & sound investor. And have a net worth north of $40-50 mill.

Whats the difference between another 4 or 5 million after taxes to play in a losing situation vs playing & for surely competing for a title in SA next season.

And he might have an actual passion for the game. Which means an interest in coaching & front office management.

What San Antonio has done for the last decade & half is remarkable. There is no better place to intern while getting paid & competing for a title.

A winning situation & tradition can attract vets on the cheap, who just want to see what the mountain top feels like.
 
West wants a championship. The Spurs may be his best opportunity. He plays one year there. He can easy get over 10 mill a year on his next deal he is very highly thought of in the league. Pacers ain't doing shit.

Make it 6, after taxes, agents & managers & spillage. A 1.5 "MILLION" base to fulfill a life long dream after earning over a $100 mill gross.

Lebron is a phenom, not your average superstar. Gilbert will be twice as rich after winning a title & OWNING half of Downtown Detroit. He can spend on the Cavs because of Quicken Loans & sound investment like buying distressed skyscrapers in a major American city.

Did you miss the part about $88 million ? He has been rich since signing his first NBA deal.

Your occupation is NOT your only source to build wealth. West might actually save & have a sound investment team.

Honestly... It isnt. I mean yes you'd like to live a comfortable life and be able to give your family the life you want them to have. But life doesn't get better just bbecause you make more money. It's mainly broke people, or people with nothing else to live for that subscribe to that way of thinking. What could he have bought with another 5 mil that he can't now???

No one is debating that money matters when it come to being rich/poor. People are just saying that a few more million when you have 10s atleast already and have been rich for wellover a decade doesn'tmean a whole lot when you're an aging vet and want to win a ring. You can always make more money when you have it if that's what your life's goal. But hell, he's made a good life for his fam. When does he get to be selfish???

My issue with this is he is "Robert Horryian" his way to a title. The only thing people will respect is that he chose to go for a title over money. But as a role player coming off the bench? Does it mean as much? I mean the front office people get rings. They don't "earn" them. Give me the money & I'll buy a million dollar ring with my NBA accomplishments on it.
