What kind of luggage do you have, and recommend?

I'm going on a trip by air soon, so I guess I need to buy some luggage. Every since I got out of the military my main piece of luggage was my old green sea bag. Before, when I flew, I would visit for less than a week, and only have summer clothes, so I'd throw everything in my old sea bag without compunction.

This time, however, I'll be gone for longer than a week, and I'll have to bring a suit, or two. Although most of my wardrobe for this trip will consist of sandals and shorts--which is perfect for my sea bag, I can't put suits in it. Besides, I'm older now and I guess it's time to purchase a decent, inexpensive, luggage set.

So for those who fly, or travel, regularly what kind of luggage do you use? Moreover, what kind of luggage would you recommend?

I like Samsonite.
But whatever you decide, get a suitcase that has 4 wheels and they all swivel/turn. I still have a couple of the old ones with only 2wheels that I have to drag along.

I've been on Amazon all afternoon looking at luggage. Samsonite does seem like a top quality maker. If I flew more regularly I'd definitely consider buying a quality set of luggage from them that I can keep for a long, long, time. However, I don't really want to drop two bills, or more, on something I'll use maybe once a year, if that (I almost always drive when I travel, so I usually don't need luggage at all).

Although my mind isn't completely made up yet, I'm strongly considering buying a two-piece carry on set, and a garment bag for my suits and other clothing that won't fit in my carry on stuff. I think that's all I need. But, again, I don't know.

Yep, four swivel wheels makes life so much easier in the airport although I can manage with my old 2 wheel ones as well.

I notice you said suits so make sure you get something roomy and Samsonite is pretty solid choice and has a good sale on their website periodically. A nice go to size is a 25 spinner.
 
I always was iffy on the luggage thing because I feel like if it's too nice something will happen to it but if it's too cheap some shit might happen like items fall out.

So I have a duffle bag,one of those rolling joints,book bag and old school leather joint.If something happened to any of them I wouldn't feel bad.
 
I bought a Delsey jawn from Macys about 7-8 years ago when I started making travelling more of a priority. At the time I think it ran me about $120, which was a lot for a piece of luggage (to me), but was definitely worth it. Several trips later its still looking new and doing it's job. I tried to find the exact one, but it looks like they dont have the exact piece anymore. It looks very similar to this though:

Oh yea,mine came with a removable garment bag section for suits that folds up and zips to the interior, but I was just looking at the newer ones and it looks like they may have left that out for some odd reason.
 
Bundle pack. YouTube it. Carry on bag for week long trips. Fuck baggage claim.

Yeah, you can definitely pack a lot of clothes and shoes in those, plus they're pretty durable, only concern for me would be packing anything fragile in those like my cologne or my andis', but if you can secure it in the middle somehow then it's all good and very spacious, just don't go over that 50 lb limit...:smh::smh::smh:

Oh, I didn't see all of your reply until I quoted you to respond. I was going to ask if bags like that are big enough to fit suits in them without wrinkling them all up. But you already kind of answered that with the garment bag comment. Speaking of garment bags, if you're bringing suits you kind of have to have one, huh?
 
Man I had a duffle bag I bought from marshalls years ago it's been good for several years. I just got back from Dominican Republic and my bag zippers are ripped off :smh: I loved that bag too been with me everywhere now I gotta get a new one. This thread is right on time. :cool:

That's another thing, I was going to try to get everything in an overhead compartment to bypass checking luggage in (and paying the fee), but I don't know. From looking online at TSA approved carry on luggage, it doesn't seem the permitted carry on luggage size is big enough for garment bags.

If you have a Costco by you go check out anything they have as well. Their own brand is pretty good as were. I also agree with the other poster. Having a four wheel suitcase is way better.

The luggage is big enough to fit a suit, yea. I've only had to pack a suit twice (I've only traveled for biz once in my life, mostly just vacation). Even w/o a garment bag, Im pretty sure there are special ways to fold the suit so that it doesn't wrinkle. Should be a gang of instructional vids on YouTube if needed. But that extra section really helps, esp if you only need to bring one suit that you want to separate from the other contents of your luggage (which was the case with me).


But you're way better off going some place and putting your hands on some pieces in person.
 
Duffle bags or knapsacks for me. I've used different sizes depending on length of trip. Can't fuck with hard cases. One of my duffles has wheels and a handle. I have a suit bag for my suit and it is fold-able and can fit in my duffle bag. If it needs ironing, I'll iron it.
 
Get some really unusual color so you can spot it easy when you go to pick up, also helps prevent accidental pick ups from others

Or if you don't do this just get some bright yarn and tie that around your handle. One of my mother's moves and it comes in handy every time.

Samsonite is a decent brand, just make sure you get something small enough to carry on if you don't want to check in your bags
Don't get those big-ass luggage because most airlines charge to check in and add extra fees for bags over 50lbs.
Yes, a garment bag is absolutely necessary to bring a suit
Folding up your shit in a bag will have it looking all wrinkly and mess it up
You don't need to buy a whole bag with a funky color, just put a tag on it that you can spot easily when going to luggage claim

Yeah, much better than what I did -- one time, tied a bandana (with $100 bills printed on it) around the handle of mine. Mugs got me -- my bag came out, but that handle was naked.

Listen to this man. I forgot about TJ Max, but I pop into the one on 57th & 8th every few weeks and they always have a gang of luggage on the cheap. Good shit too. I bought a new carry on there around tax time for around $80..:
