Bryan Singer Will Direct X-Men: Apocalypse

As expected, Bryan Singer has officially been confirmed as the director of X-Men: Apocalypse. This will be the fourth film Singer has helmed in the franchise, following this summer’s mega hit X-Men: Days of Future Past.

While Singer has been tweeting about the project for over a year, there was some speculation that the he might lose the gig in the wake of his recent legal troubles, in which plaintiff Michael Egan alleged that Singer sexually assaulted him when he was underage. The charges — which you can more read about in Robert Kolker’s recent New York feature — have since been dismissed, albeit in such a way that they can be refiled in the future.

In a fan Q&A session at Yahoo, X-Men: Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg says the franchise is done with Halle Berry, James Marsden, and Famke Janssen, none of whom were born with a genetic mutation that allows them to reverse their own aging process. "If we include some of the original X-Men like Storm or Jean [Grey] or Scott [Summers] in X-Men:Apocalypse, we would have to recast them," Kinberg said, "because Apocalypse takes place a good 20 years before X1, which, insanely, was 15 years ago." Hugh Jackman, meanwhile, will play Wolverine until he morphs into a sinewy mass of veins and muscles.

Why wouldn't they have him in it. Wolverine is the most known character of the X-Men. Jackman is who the audience identifies with.

What I don't get about this statement is what are they doing with Patrick Stewart and Ian McCallan.The time line is all screwed up now. It like all the previous movie outside of First Class don't even matter now. So did Charles tell his younger self where Wolverine was and they rescued him. Can't wait until they release the synopsis for this.

X-Men: Apocalypse Has Nabbed 3 More of Its Mutants

Bryan Singer unveiled three more actors-cum-mutants appearing in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse film: Alexandra Shipp (aka Lifetime's Aaliyah), Sophie Turner (aka HBO's Sansa Stark), and Tye Sheridan (aka that kid from Mud). Shipp will play Storm; Turner, Jean Grey; and Sheridan, Cyclops.

If they look more like Teen Titan cast members to you that's because this is going to be a weird, semi-retro 1980s-set installment, of which a majority of the plot details are still unknown.

The three relatively young players join Oscar Isaac (the eponymous villain), Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender on the Singer-helmed project, which comes out May 27, 2016. Yeah, you've got a while, so maybe just watch the Ultron trailers on repeat to get your comic book movie fix
