I hate Windows 8... here's why

It's bullshit man. Win7 was solid, no real reason to upgrade. Here are my reasons that it sucks, just 24 hours after using it:

• No Start menu (without using an add-on)
• Changes ALL of the default programs to a Windows based program, including PDF's, MP3's, etc. And this is AFTER I installed Adobe Acrobat!
• Extra clicks for everything. Want to create a new folder? Have to use a menu, THEN click the button.
• Details pane is on the right side (instead of the bottom) and you CAN'T change it
• No fucking Start menu
• Reorganized the commands that used to be at the top of a window, so how you have to hunt for everything
• Turned off delete confirmation by default. Now when you delete something it immediately goes to the recycle bin. Sucks if you hit the wrong key by mistake, you might not know what you deleted
• Want to use Mail or Calendar? You HAVE to have a "Microsoft account." Won't work without it
• Took me 10 minutes to find the "desktop"
• Every program you install suddenly becomes a "tile" on the Start screen
• Automatically makes tiles live, so all of your pictures get displayed without your consent. (need to be careful if your computer is shared and no other user account is created, can cause some arguments in the house)

Just is just the tip of the iceberg. Honestly I want to get Windows 7 put back on here...

There is a learning curve to it, but oncew you get it...it's pretty solid.....oh and there IS a start menu..

I concur sir...I got a new laptop last week with Windows 8..they FIRST thing I did was research online on how to get the START button back...never realized how much I used that, until it was gone. You will spend at least 10-20 minutes, trying to get this thing to work like previous versions of Windows.

There IS a start menu... There IS a learning curve, even for the tech savvy... There are issues with surround sound playing using Windows 8. Drivers only support Stereo... I'm sure windows is working on it, but it's a pain in the ass having to refresh drivers quite often.... Google Chrome runs slower on Windows 8 (think they wanna force us to use IE...

...It's still solid and kinda fun getting to 'know'... But still has kinks...

having no start menu just turned me off automatically.
Windows 8 is likeable if you have a touch screen computer or tablet.
but i aint tryin to fuck with that shit. i'll be using Win7 til somethin better comes along.

thanks OP for posting...i was wondering about people's real-world experiences with win 8

i usually upgrade pretty early on with new releases but windows 7 is all that visually and w8 metro isn't doing it for me right now

we'll see how the software evolves

Everything will and must change. Stop being a progress stopper ole quaker ass ninja.

That's all fine and dandy but how about they not put a mobile OS on a desktop PC. If you monitor was touch screen and the OS worked with it things would be different. I have a macbook pro and I hated how apple tried to turn OSX into iOS.

this is the shit I could not deal with, Im waiting for a few more stardock tweaks, before I re install it

and for those that are audio heads, the drivers SUCK

its pretty fast though, but I would also recommend memorizing the new "windows" + keystrokes to navigate better.....

I always thought they were supposed to improve what was already good with the o/s, not completely overhaul it. Microsoft made a lot of unnecessary changes.

What sound card do you guys have? The audio engine is largely unchanged between 7 and 8 with the exception of a couple of bugs fixed dealing with latency and changing bitrate. In fact, most reviews I've seen said 8 was better for audio, with the exception of Aero/Modern apps.

You know how Microsoft do

I don't remember Windows '95 and '98 too well, but

Windows 2000
Windows ME :smh:
Windows XP
Windows Vista :smh:
Windows 7
Windows 8 :dunno:

We've had it at work for a few months now, testing it on a few of the computers before we set them up. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Seems solid but I still like my Windows 7. Might play around with it a bit more and see if it's worth upgrading(it's free but you just never know).

As a power user I love windows 8. There was a stiff learning curve. But after that it's way better than win7.

Fuck that shit! I have no plans on using that shit for the next few years. Windows 7 64-bit is on my PC now and I just installed that shit a few months ago. I refuse to fuck with new Windows OS right out the box. That shit is just asking for bugs and problems. Plus Windows 8 seems like some shit that should be running on tablets.

The shit is easy to learn. Took me a day. Waay better than Windows 7. I have it on may desktop and you don't need a touch screen monitor. There are some kinks but it still doesn't ruin the experience. MS will put out some updates to correct those issues.

Anytime something new comes out people are gonna bitch and moan but in a year or two it will be common place (see the ribbon in office). I also think this OS + the new laptops with the touch screen built in are the future standard because that is what the OEMs and M$ are pushing.

Microsoft isnt pushing tablets, the marketplace is dictating that tablets move to the forefront. You are correct: this thread is a pamprin ass thread.

Shid, I still got Windows XP on all my machines... and I JUST upgraded to XP a year or two ago.

Before this it was Windows 2000 since forever :dunno:

I wanna catch up, tho. My next hardware upgrade I'll prolly see what's han'n w/ Win7.

All in the name of sticking their hand deeper into our pockets...and that's really the only reason

You are becoming extinct right before your own eyes and you don't even notice. My 3 year old finds it quite simple and useful. When new things become too hard or uncomfortable for you maybe it's YOU.

This. I love this joint now that I got the hang of it. It actually makes things faster once you know what you are doing
