A Pro-Trump Publication Just Invented A Conspiracy Theory Attacking Malia Obama

If Donald Trump is looking for a real example of “fake news” this week, he needs to look no farther than the checkout stand at his neighborhood supermarket where The Globe tabloid weekly’s front page headline: “Malia Obama Questioned In FBI Probe,” with a subhead that reads: “Barack & Michelle’s Worst Nightmare.”

The truth is that Malia, now a student at Harvard University, had a summer job working for the Weinstein Company, which is now in trouble after co-founder Harvey Weinstein was accused by numerous women of sexual harassment and even rape.

Of course, that has nothing to do with Malia. In fact, when you read the story, according to Boing Boing.net, “you learn that the FBI hasn’t questioned Malia at all. Rather, ‘agents want to grill Malia in a hush-hush deposition'”

There are dozens of people – former employees, showbiz figures, women who have made charges – who obviously would be more likely to be interviewed if the FBI is looking into the Weinstein case.

So why would the FBI want to interview with Malia?

“They don’t,” adds Boing Boing.net. “It’s just an easy story to invent.”

The tiny grain of reality, continues Boing Boing.net, is that there has been a discussion about a class action lawsuit against Weinstein, and if Malia were part of it, she might at some point be deposed – but right now there is no suit and no certainty she would ever elect to be part of it.

Fake news!

It is not a secret or a surprise that the trashy tabloid would stretch a tiny bit of truth to fabricated a bold headline about a non-story.

In 1999, the same year American Media acquired The Globe, the Washington Monthly ran an expose by a former Globe reporter who described their sleazy, unethical, outrageous mode of operation when it came to news stories.

“The Globe fabricated quotes and scenarios and then go the OK form their ‘sources,’ who would concede they were ‘possible,” and boom! The next Globe cover story emerged.”

There is nothing to suggest The Globes penchant for knowingly publishing fake news has changed under American Media. In fact, it seems to have gotten worse – and in recent years this disgusting, underhanded, borderline illegal editorial philosophy has been perverted further to help, glorify and praise Donald Trump – and make him president.

American Media doesn’t just own The Globe. Over recent years it has become the dominant players in the supermarket aisle magazine sweepstakes. It’s best-known property is its anchor publication, The National Enquirer, but its list of titles also includes Star, Radar Online, OK!, The Examiner and most recently US Weekly.

American Media is ruled with an iron fist by David J. Pecker, a former accountant who brags about his friendship with Trump.

The New Yorker this past March, in an article examining the curiously close relationship between the trashy tabloid empire and Trump, reported: “Throughout the 2016 Presidential race, the Enquirer embraced Trump with sycophantic fervor. The magazine made its first political endorsement ever, of Trump, last Spring.”

It wasn’t just The Enquirer. Virtually all of American Media’s portfolio of publication repeatedly ran stories slant to make Trump look good and his opponents and enemies look not only bad but horrible.

“Pecker and Trump have been friends for decades – their professional and personal lives have intersected in myriad ways,” reported The New Yorker. “And Pecker acknowledges that his tabloid’s coverage of Trump has a personal dimension.”

“Pecker heads a fading and vaguely comic archetype of Americana,” continues the New Yorker, “sales of the Enquirer are down ninety percent from their peak in 1970. But the impact of the tabloids, particularly their covers, remains substantial.”

“AMI claims that a hundred million people see the Enquirer in more than two hundred thousand checkout lines around the country every week. And the Enquirer’s covers invariable include statements about celebrities that are deeply misleading, if libel-law-compliant, as well as claims about politicians that are outright lies.”

And on most of those two hundred thousand check out stands, The Globe is also being sold, with equally false cover headlines like the one about Malia Obama.

Apparently, the President’s daughter Ivanka, who is also a White House counselor, does not like the treatment the former first daughter is getting in tabloids like The Globe. She tweeted today in defense of Malia her call for an end to stories about Malia dating, kissing boys and smoking cigarettes at college. Her anger also covers The Globe’s lies.

The President seems to pay about as much attention to what Ivanka has to say about Malia as he does about her opinions on most political and policy issues, which is very little.

Trump loves Pecker because he is always full of praise for the President, and his rank publications constantly find a way to paint his failing administration in a positive light while attacking and denigrating those Trump doesn’t like.

The Globe and the other American Media titles are the worst possible example of journalism, and prey on a portion of the public that wants to believe the worst about everyone and everything.

The sad part is that this is a reflection of how Trump operates and no matter what he says, who he is – someone who will disparage anyone he considers an enemy no matter how accurate their views, how respected they are elsewhere, or in Malia’s case, how young she is and how her rights as a private citizen are being terribly violated.

So well Trump charges that CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times are publishing false stories, he is delighted to see and support the really false junk being published by his pal Pecker and the gang of fake news specialist at American Media.

Disgusting!
