With the much anticipated Black Panther movie projected to earn Marvel Studios an estimated $150-plus million on its opening weekend, some fans are calling for a portion of the movie’s profits to be invested in the black community.

An online petition created by a Chaz Gormley is urging Marvel’s parent company, the Walt Disney Co. to “set aside 25 percent of their worldwide profit to be allocated for investment in black communities, and in programs within these communities that focus on S.T.E.M.”

Gormley’s Change.org petition said that the movie studios have intentionally targeted African American communities around the country with its marketing campaigns for the upcoming film.

“As marginalized groups have become more vocal, corporations and their savvy public relations departments have turned to catering to these groups—to turn a profit—and this film by Marvel Studios is no different,” the petition reads.

Black Panther is expected to smash February’s box office opening record, previously held by Marvel’s Deadpool at $152.1 million over four days. When the film’s advance tickets were released in late January, Fandango reported that sales were beating Captain America: Civil War in its first 24 hours, topping Marvel’s all-time record for first-day advance ticket sales. It was also surpassing the previous record-holder, Batman v Superman, which went on to amass a $166 million in its domestic opening weekend in March 2016.

Gormley said although he expects people of all races to the theatres to see the film—which has a predominantly black cast and director— Gormley said Marvel is targeting the black community because of its spending power.

A part of the tactic used by the film studio is the use of Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” playing in the background of the film’s trailer, which Gormley said is insulting as a marketing ploy as it speaks to the monetization of “wokeness.”

“You have the ability to not only be entertained but to leave the theater in February knowing that a portion of your money will be coming back into your community,” Gormley said. “To not only go see a film about a fictitious country in Africa with advanced technology but the opportunity to invest in programs which focus on the fields—Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics—that make such advancements possible, in real life.”

The petition has amassed just over 3,000 signatures of its required 5,000

Disney
Black Panther has already set the stage to be a massive blockbuster at theaters, and now, some people are asking that Marvel put their money where their mouth is.

A petition online, created by Chaz Gormley, is urging Marvel’s cinematic parent, The Walt Disney Co., to “set aside 25 percent of their worldwide profits to be allocated for investment in black communities, and in programs within these communities that focus on S.T.E.M.”

Citing the fact that the cinematic studio has targeted Black culture and Black communities for its marketing campaign, and Black people have therefore substantially assisted with the imminent success of the world of Wakanda— Gormley assists on Change.org that Black Panther‘s profit goes to good use.

–Black Panther Preview: Meet Michael B. Jordan’s character Killmonger–

“While many would see the release of a major studio film with a majority black cast, black director and art direction helmed by black artists… as a win,” Gormley asserts, “what exactly will the black community gain, aside from another symbolic victory?”

Gormley lays out a detailed and well-structured argument noting that the studio’s use of Black History Month as a release date is not by coincidence but design. Gormley takes it a bit further in his analysis:

“Surely, more than just Black people will be heading to the movies on February 16th…however… they’ve blatantly targeted the Black community, because they want the one thing the black community has to offer in abundance – black dollars.”

Gormley goes on to list the decision to use Gil-Scott Heron’s iconic song “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” in the background of the first Black Panther trailer, as further demonstration of the studio’s desire to capitalize on Black culture.

–Black Panther Preview: Meet Angela Bassett’s character Queen Ramonda–

Some are asking would it hurt for Marvel to invest some of its millions and/or billions of profits to Black communities that they’re targeting for the movie? At a time in politics where it’s beneficial to put your wallet where your mouth is, Gormley’s petition raises an intriguing question.

Marvel’s all-Black superhero casted movie has already broken records with the highest pre-sales for any superhero movie, ever. It’s projected to make over $165M in its first weekend in the in the US and is anticipated to possibly surpass February’s greatest opening week belonging to Deadpool at $363 million.

EXCLUSIVE

PAY IT FORWARDTMZ.com

Vivica A. Fox raised her fist and emphatically let it be known -- "Black Panther" producers, Disney, could do wonders if it donates a big chunk of money to the African-American community.

We got Vivica Monday at LAX and she threw her support behind the Change.org petition for Marvel and Disney to invest 25% of the movie's proceeds back into the community. She says it's the right move, and could pay dividends for many years to come.

Not everyone's totally on board. We also got comedian Gary Owen, and he says it's not the studio's job to give away money. He has some advice for anyone signing the petition.

JUST SEE THE MOVIETMZ.com

By the way, the guy who started the petition says the donation is the right thing to do, because Disney has marketed the movie almost exclusively to black moviegoers ... and it's done so in the middle of Black History Month.

Ha ha negros always got to have there hand out. I doubt Disney is going give any money.

Stop buying Jordan’s and other expensive material bullshit and be like the Jews and the Asians and invest in real estate and land.

And if you require studios to donate profits you know they greedy Jews will never make another big budget black film again :)

1st Monique tried to use the Black Community to strong arm Netflix into giving her more money.
Now some motherfucker is trying to piggyback on the success of The Black Panther to shame Disney into giving up its profits.

Gee, its such a wonderful time to be Black in America...

if you wanna change the black community SO bad....YOU go out and hustle & grind...till you got mark zuckerberg money....then YOU invest it in the black community....

cuz it sounds like you tryna pimp the black community....you tryna get a piece of movie...YOU did ZERO work on...

Or you can spend and repatriate your money in your community.

Instead of KFC eat at Vernies. Instead of fucking a smut at the Hilton have a girlfriend or a wife.

Folks always want to pass the buck.

How about we snitch on the niggas who are destroying our black communities and stop knockin up hoes. Then we can stop overspending and start saving investing.

That faux-nation money wouldn't help anyone on the ground, I don't believe it would. It would phatten up some pockets for business owners.

Last cent, the black community must invest in itself. Far too many niggas who got some paper not to build with each other. Black families need to build as a unit shiiit.

Hollywood is about money and this movie was an investment in THEMSELVES.

Ahhh that felt good......

How about we learn what snitching is first and if that mindset changes maybe then,

If you witness a crime = NOT SNITCHING

If you are involved in a crime and get caught and cooperate to make it light on yourself = SNITCHING

But you are right, far too many want to avoid any responsibility because of dwightman.

Talk about bad optics.

What we need is commitment. We need parents to not only participate in the schooling of our youth but to hold positions on the school boards and effect change.
It all starts with education. Why do you think whites deliberately cut budgets to poorer school districts? In the 50's and 60's Black Education was paramount and because of it we had the start of real unity.
white people realized this of course and set about to destroy our (educated) leaders and negate the very idea that education was important, at least to Blacks. They will do anything, anything to keep Black people fragmented. And here we are 50 years later 100 years behind again.

What's needed is for our people to wake up and unify. Every effort I see is some haphazard plan that reaps marginal results. Like a one day boycott of an oil company. Really? That's not a plan. We must stop acting as individuals and unite and do things collectively. Whites are organized and we've seen and are experiencing what they're capable of doing.

Their future doesn't include us and its time black people start to understand that. Look at how Trump handled the hurricane victims from the islands. He took care of both Florida and Texas (red republican states). Where was the backlash from his handling of that situation? We heard very little said. Why is that?

News stations that report the news as per government approval. They've been involved with editing the news since the Vietnam War. No we're not getting real news, might be the only thing Trump hasn't lied about.

Better believe we need to get our acts together. You've got the Russians interfering with our election processes, white militias arming themselves with every firearm they can get. A racist congress and president that's more racist than anything we've read about in any history books. We better get it together.

To the Black folks who agree with said petition I must say Negro please. The Black community needs to invest in the Black community. Stop spending money on bullshit and buying from people that ain't Black and or not investing in the Black community.

This is where it starts and preferably a black owned bank.

It's really sad a lot of people don't know what the word snitching means......:smh:
