Per Royal's suggestion:

We need a thread for Atl spots encyclopedia we need to list the best spots with reviews for upscale, older, younger (20+) we also need to list hole in the walls---trust me their not always as bad as you think! I've came up in some!

We need to list bars, lounges, the type of crowd that's in there, dress code or not, hood code or not, lol. The good and the bad! Because every month somebody drops a thread about spots in Atlanta because their visiting, so lets go ahead and make a thread if there already isn't one. Also us Atliens need it because so many new clubs/lounges have popped up its crazy.

Let me speak on what I know :

Max Lagers : went here for the first time about two, three weeks ago. They got house beers that are pretty good. Also got a $12 burger and a $15 burger and steaks and some other stuff. Well worth the money because I don't remember a steak being less than $20. If you got a sweet tooth the deserts are on point - it's $9 but get the fried cheesecake.

H. Harpers : it's a bar that serves food. Not a food place that serves drinks. That said their food menu changes but you can get a Sunday dinner three course meal for about $15 - 18 depending on what they changing it to that week. If they tell you they have the Fluffernutter cookies or the chocolate bread pudding, get it before it's gone. The drink menu is extensive so if you don't mind $6 to $12 bucks a drink it's something different to try. (I've stayed away from the mixed drinks with the egg in it though.)

McCormick : Went here for a wedding shower. Service was eh, (there was a fly in my water), and the food was average. It's in the CNN building so you know there's a mark up. Maybe when I check this coupon they gave me I can try some more food if it's any better.

Bigelows : For the older crowd. Never been there but I stayed around the corner from it back in the day. Always stayed poppin. Been more than ten years, lot stay full.

Sun Dial : It's ok, but not the hype everyone make it out to be. Nice view though.

I think it's also about following a couple key promoters....

J Carter - Sol Fusion + Sundays @ Loco Luna (free)
ATL Barz and Crew - Sunset Lounge @ Shout - once a month

I rather follow something that I know is going to bring out the crowd I like

For the vegan/vegetarian & health conscious folk:

Soul Vegetarian There are two locations: West End & Va. Highlands. Try the Kalbone (their version of seitan) is the shyt!

Food For Life Supreme Very nice vegetarian spot located down the street from the AU center. Nice atmosphere, decor and good food.

Healthful Essence Caribbean style vegetarian/vegan spot in the West End. Try the "curry unchicken" with beans and rice.

good job playa, i'll be back tonight or tomorrow with my list as well as reviews of the spots i've been to. I'll give reviews to let cats know what to expect (chicks that are down, hood spots, hype williams video model type chicks, jazzy spots, spots where you have spend $15 minimum for parking, plus $20 to $40 to get in, spots, the best times to go without extremely long lines, after hour spots, etc....) We need the whole 9 in this thread. Because I want to know what to expect from all these new clubs and lounges that are popping up that i haven't been to, also there's some hot unknown spots in the metro area i'm trying to tap into, let's make this thorough as possible. Good thread, let's get it!

The West End stay on that mother earth/vegan tip. Glad to see folks revitalizing a bit...even if it is some gentrification in there...it needs it though...catch 22...

But for the most part what I see is that the good food spots is either up north or in Midtown.

If anyone been to the salsa night at Loca Luna's tell me how it was. I was up in there for all you can eat Tapas on a Tuesday ($15) and the band they had was pretty good.

When I can think of this little eatery in Midtown that sell some good Cuban food I'll come in here and post it.

You must be thinking about Papi's on Ponce. I believe there's several locations in the metro (one in Kennesaw I believe). Damn good Cuban food!

Ah man, I went to Chow Baby on Howell Mill and that shyt sucked! Had to fuck up 2x to make a meal that was somewhat tolerable. Its a different concept for a restaurant but I dont think I'll be going back.

Haven't been to Loca Luna yet. Heard some nice honeys be out there. Gotta peep it on Sundays.

Yep that's it! Papi's...that was pretty good. It's another Cuban joint stuck in a strip mall up in Alpharetta called Mamba's...Mambo's...one or the other. Empanadas are huge and the tres leches cake was gorgeous.

I got some people that swear by that Chow Baby...I wanted to see what the hype was about...now I'm not so sure...

Not sure if Loca Luna is going to keep the salsa lessons into the fall but the food is good. The yuca fries are addictive. I'd just stay away from the lobster bisque but the fish tacos are my fav.

I think Room Service on Cheshire Bridge is an after-hours spot.

Me and my potnas hit this Afrikan & Caribbean spot last year in Gwinnett and that shyt stayed open till like 5 or 6 in the mornin. As it got late, more and more people came through.

Can't remember the name of the spot (I think it was Queens Lounge, not sure though) but it was pretty nice with a lot of Afrikan chicks. Wasn't too far from Bella Lounge.

Sports Bars

Barley's -- live band & DJ Fri & Sat. Lots of fly honeys. Over 20 pool tables.

Applebee's - I like the Spring Road (Smyrna) location & the one in Perimeter.

Fox Sports Grill -- I'm not a big fan of this spot but some of you guys may like it.

Dugan's -- Several locations in the metro. I use to go to the one on Ponce. Haven't been in 2 years but everytime I ride by it on the weekends, its hella packed.

JR Crickett's -- Great spot for drinks & wings. I like the one on Camp Creek and the one on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna.

Wet Willies -- Its a good spot to hit before you hit a club. Note: This location doesn't compare to the one in the MIA or Fort Lauderdale (Hard Rock Casino) but its still a cool spot to kick it with the fellas. The women are cool and the drinks are bomb. If you wanna get right, order a "Call A Cab" or a "Superman." If you're a novice drinker, you only need one :D

Other Notables:

Hudson Grille

Taco Mac

Twisted Taco

Marlows Tavern (Midtown & Vinings)

Damn, that was a good little run. 2007 was my year for that spot and the ESPN zone! :smh:

Atlanta lost a certain edge after 2007 IMO... shit was too hype 2007 and before. Shit just started closing and seems like the ATL surge calmed down dramatically after that period. :(

They're trying to get rid of the "hood" element in Atlantic Station so they're getting rid of all of those bars. Basically they're about to do what Buckhead did.

Haven't been to Atlantic Station in over a year. Heard its changed a lot.

Fox was cool the first year or two and then it just got ridiculous. Couldn't even get a place to sit in that joint it stayed so packed!

The ATL nightlife scene has really grown up a lot in the last few years. There are new restaurants & lounges popping up all over the city.

Any new updates on closings and/or new spots to chill?

I would like to add, a HIGH museum membership would come in handy for anyone in/near ATL. Great way to be entertained and you can party/drink in any of the nearby Midtown spots.
