I know how to write, but I don't understand the pitch idea or how to do it. Can somebody explain. I appreciate the heads-up. I'd like to try this

You can always ask them to clarify but I believe they're looking for think pieces about what Black Panther means to you, black culture, being a black comic book geek, how you relate to T'Challa's struggles in your own life, Hollywood's depiction of Africa and black people in general, what the movie holds for the future of Black movies, etc. stuff like that.

@playahaitian might be a way to tie in your efforts being a real-life hero with the Sickle Cell Awareness Xampaign and what the superhero from Wakanda has to face. Worth a shot.

Ok

Assist.

Even though you may not be writing a whole screenplay... and just trying to say 'why' certain characters are important to you... Keep in Mind... you only have 60 seconds or LESS to get your point across.

With that said... some of these videos might help with 'the delivery' of your ideas... because you can always 'cherrypick' the specific points that apply to you, personally. Just saying.

I do what's going on round here?

@raze been trying to help me do something for Sickle Cell Awareness using the Black Panther primere...

like a hastag or some type of social media campaign

and he found that Nerdist is hiring someone to write about Black Panther and thought I could use THAT at a platform

me and @godofwine couldn't even understand EXACTLY what they were asking for

but the bgol writer's guild broke it down.

And I IMMEDIATELY thought of you because we had already discussed this.

I think it works better if you work in the area in which you are most familiar, at least in part.

Just off the top of my head, my pitch would center around a Wakanda citizen, first cousin to T'Challa sent undercover as a US Navy intelligence officer. It seems the Navy has stolen some vibranium

I was in the Navy so I can speak to some of the details. Although I was enlisted and not an officer, I think I'd be able to work it

Watching "3 Mistakes Most Writers Make" it's amazing how much I already know about this.

In the novel I'm working on, End of a Nightmare, I've got the first, second, and third Acts and conflicts already worked out. Understanding the character, the character's motivation, all of that... I've just got to get them all on paper and out of my head.

Something's getting lost in translation because I don't think they're looking for fiction. Seems to me they want opinion pieces from black writers about the impact of the Black Panther movie. They want you to pitch them your idea for an article, if they like it, you'll get the go ahead. Again, you can always contact them for clarification.

You probably know this stuff already... but this guy (Peter Russell) has some great points

After watching these 2 videos below... I realized that 'Game of Thrones' employs these elements ALL THE TIME.

Some of the VERY BEST SCENES of 'Game of Thrones' that build 'character'... are totally built upon those 2 writing concepts.

Here are some examples...

I have a question. I am not a black panther aficionado, although I would like to know more about the comic. I want to know, if wakanda did have a spy in the United States military, who would they report to Within the wakanda ranks? It would not be to T'Challa, I know that. But who would be the point of contact for such a person?

It has changed depending on the writer

his #1 has been his sister his uncle his best friend or the head of his personal guard.

I dont know/remember if he was SENT or just DECIDED to go.

I can't remember if his father was alive when he spied on the avengers.

I can pm the best runs of his series when I get back.

The BET cartoon was a good starter too.

@raze

I'm going to try to think of something good, I'm drawing a blank under pressure.

I think Bernadin might have taken the best theme.

Just found out my homeboy is the new writer for the Marvel Black Panther series. It's his story before he became Black Panther. Think of it as Black Panther: Year One similar to Batman's.

He's going to be at Midtown Comics this Friday signing copies of the issue.

Thanks for this

I'm going to check out the times hopefully I can get one signed for my oldest she is a big fan and we plan on going to see this as a family. She writes her own comics and wants to be the black panther's sister or one of the Dora for Halloween.

Coates is a master...but I think the comics were not his best forum. Not issue to issue but more like overseeing the entire project.

There is a BP junior novel series following a young T'Challa also.

In this movie, a Wakandan Spy would most likely report to 1 of these 3 folks, imo.

Possibly Queen Ramonda since she is one of the very few folks who has 'enough power' to send a spy outside of Wakanda.

Or maybe W'Kabi, since he is the Head of Security of Wakanda + T'Challa's Best Friend + and his Top Advisor.
The Dora Millajé guard the King himself... but W'kabi & his troops secure the rest of Wakanda.
So if it was a matter of 'National Security'... pretty sure he'd be involved. Somewhere at the top.
Cause he's like the Director of Wakanda's version of SHIELD, so to speak.

But if i had to make a bet... I'd put my money on Okoyé.
Because she the Top Military General of Wakanda... and also the Leader of the Dora Millajé.
So I could easily see her dispatching a Spy to do some Wetwork /or Counter-Espionage.... overseas.

( Second photo) This is by far my favorite shot of Black Panther so far! My love for Angela Bassett is endless but I do want to take a minute to share a quick history of the Zulu inspired headdress she’s wearing:

The flared shape of these Zulu women’s hats (isicholo), dyed with red ochre, reflect the original design of the hairstyle on which they are based. Originally a mother would sew her daughter’s hair into this complex design for the initial stage in the series of ceremonies associated with her daughter’s marriage. The hats are a relatively new aspect of Zulu traditional dress that were developed in the late 19th or early 20th century and are based on the cone-shaped hairstyle that indicated the wearer’s maturity and marital status. Marriage and its affirmation of maturity is one of five key rites of passage in the life of a Zulu woman alongside: birth, naming, death/burial and ukubuyisa, “bringing home of the spirit”.

Once Zulu culture accepted hats as an alternative to the hairstyle, a young bride-to-be would begin sewing her hat as soon as she knew to whom she would be married. They are made by overlaying dyed string on a basketry foundation. Isicholo play a role in the ukukhehla ceremony, the second ceremony in which the future bride and groom exchange gifts and thanks before the actual wedding. For the majority of the ceremony the hat (or originally the bride’s hair) would be protected by a wrap of white fabric. At the appropriate moment in the wedding songs, the groom-to-be removes the wrap and pins a note to the headdress. Once married, a Zulu woman would wear this hat on a daily basis to signify her married status. The hat was one of very few adornments worn by married women, who, although part of a culture where beadwork plays an extremely significant symbolic role, wore nearly none.

Today the isicholo is no longer worn on a daily basis, but it continues to be used on special ceremonial occasions, when it is commonly worn with an imported scarf tied over the hat to keep the read ochre pigment from rubbing off on the wearer’s clothes.
