Joy Reid battled Pastor Mark Burns this morning on AM Joy over his defense of President Trump on immigration.

Burns first disputed the accuracy of the “shithole” comments and claimed he knows that this didn’t happen. Reid pointed to statements from people like Lindsey Graham and asked him, “Were you in the room?”

Allowing that he perhaps did say it, Burns said such comments would be “preposterous,” but he went on to say people are too focused on Trump’s words instead of his deeds.

He cited the Bible and talked about loving thy neighbor by sending aid to other nations. Reid asked him how, as a man of God, he could justify sending people back just like that.

Burns invoked Trump’s “America First” policy and also pointed to how “black people in America are suffering.”

Towards the end of the interview, as Burns continued, Reid said, “I’m gonna give you one more chance to answer my question and then we’re gonna be done here, because you’re actually wasting my time when you talk over me and don’t answer my question.”

Burns told Reid “you’re wasting my time,” to which she responded, “Oh, well then, if I’m wasting your time, then goodbye.” And the interview ended.

Why invite someone with pernicious opinions unto “your” show? Sometimes Joy can be so fake. Ironically, she’s the reason why I stopped watching the network. I wanted her to get a show in prime time. This isn’t prime time material.

Religion isn't the problem. Joy quoted scripture, too. The problem is that religion has been co-opted and twisted by a group of people for manipulation and political gain, while true believers have sat back and let it happen or gradually been deceived themselves.

I was so happy to see her go toe to toe with him. We have to let these folks stop falsely claiming a moral high ground they don't hold and aren't entitled to in the first place, while misusing scripture to oppress folks, make their lives harder, and pass laws that screw us all over.
