Question Weight Loss Newbie needs Help!

I have been a member of BGOL for a while and I need some assistance trying to get some weight loss done. I am 40, have Type Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. The weight loss is a must and I have no idea about diet, what exercises to do or cardio. I know I need to start, I am just not sure where. Any advice is appreciated.

before you do anything..... watch the movie Forks Over Knives... this movie will get you motivated first....I can tell already that you're not motivated.....you have to want to do it

I do insanity. As a warning. Go at your own pace. Eventually with repetition you will get better. I started a month ago I was at 228 now I'm at 217. Don't eat no garbage, ie mc donalds and other fast food. Cut back on the breads. White rice. Eat lots of greens and drink a ton of water. No soda or other high sugar beverages. Im no health nut just give my 2¢

I assure you, I am quite motivated. In the past I have tried a few things, but they never worked out. Here is a short list:
1) Atkins New Diet Revolution
2) South Beach
3)Insanity DVDs (no place to work out as I have a small apartment

I want to do it and have positive results. I will handle staying focus alright, I just need a plan. Also, I haven't seen Forks over Knives, but I have seen Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.

All the above advice is a great start. You might want to also consider a personal trainer who can put you on the correct regimen given where you are physically. The key is to do whole body work vs. station to station work. Good luck brother.

Re: Weight Loss Newbie needs Help!

i am going to help you... i loss 80lbs so far and i went on no diets... diets don't work, you have to set in your mind that you are on a "lifestyle change". i still eat what i want i just eat better options and smaller portions more frequently throughout the day. i cut out all forms of soda and juice water water and more water, for one reason the sugars are not good for you and another reason is the same calories in a can of soda or a big glass of juice are the same calories in a small chicken breast so why not eat your calories rather than drink them.

to lose the weight here is what i did...

when i first started i would work out about an hour a day. i would walk on the treadmill for about 20-25 minutes then after that i would just use the circuit machines in the gym. did that until i began to get into better shape, the better shape i got in the more stuff i added like jogging and free weights and then some of the more challenging classes they offer at the gym.

also i began to weigh out all of my foods so i know exactly how many calories i am eating throughout the day.

make a sandwich used mustard instead of mayo

had a salad used a balsamic dressing instead of the blue cheese with the bacon cheese and croutons...

simple things like that will save you calories and help you lose weight and control your other factors.

used the dash diet to regulate my blood pressure, the principles of the diet basically state 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day along with two servings of calcium.

began to cook more at home and take lunch to work instead of buying.

i allow myself one "cheat" meal a week usually something that i enjoy that is not so good for you like pizza or wings.

as far as your blood pressure goes you have to eliminate salty foods out of your diet, no hot dogs, no chinese foods, no processed foods, no deli meats except for maybe the turkey roll, no foods that are labeled as diet or low cal or healthy choice or any other wording they may use, those usually contain lots of salt to bump the flavors up.

write your goals down make them visible and read them every day.

begin to push yourself, dont let your body tell you what it cant do you tell your body what you want it to do.

those are just a few of the things i have done

Re: Weight Loss Newbie needs Help!

another thing you may want to do bro is invest in seeing a dietician/nutritionist. depending on your health insurance they may even pay for it, even it they dont the class i took cost me about 200 bucks and it was well worth the money even though i got reimbursed.
