Saul Alvarez-Josesito Lopez Reportedly Done For 9/15

Several sources within the United States, and Mexico, are advising BoxingScene.com that WBC silver welterweight champion Josesito Lopez (30-4, 18KOs) will be announced, likely tomorrow, as the opponent for WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (40-0-1, 29KOs) on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. At the moment, BoxingScene has not received confirmation on the exact weight - whether the fight is set for the full 154 or a catch-weight.

Last month, Lopez moved up to 147-pounds and broke the jaw of Victor Ortiz to secure a ninth round stoppage at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Ortiz was the scheduled opponent to face Canelo in September.

Lopez weighed 144-pounds for the fight with Ortiz, and most expected him to get overwhelmed, but he managed to hold his own and went to war with Ortiz for nine rounds. Canelo is a small junior middleweight - but he is still bigger and stronger than Ortiz, so the weight will be the most significant factor against Lopez.

Showtime will televise the contest.

On the undercard, Jhonny Gonzalez (52-7, 45KOs) will defend the WBC featherweight title against Daniel Ponce De Leon (43-4, 35KOs).

Also, heavyweight contender Seth Mitchell (25-0-1, 19KOs) will take on Johnathon Banks (28-1-1, 18KOs).

Other than that this is a ridiculous move for Canelo, but good luck to Lopez for getting this opportunity after cashing in on that last one.

Or fought Lara. But if Josesito does fuck around and upset Canelo, he should get fighter of the year honors and superfight consideration.

fuckin goldenboy...yeah alvarez just made my shitlist...i see golden boy wants him to be on some jermain taylor shit...why though? the nigga has 40 something pro fights and he's a beltholder...fight a champ or top contender...they are out there damn....i mean im happy lopez will get some dough for this and then in an inevitable rematch with ortiz..but seriously a 140lber vs 154? there's a reason why weight divisions exist...this is like a recipe for being ruined

although i will be laughing my ass off if lopez somehow beats canelo and ends up breaking his jaw too

Man... with Chavez in the sport, pulling his bullshit... you might as forget about weight classes.

I think De La would be on suicide watch if that boy gets destroyed. That is his retirement right there and knowing that he will have to pray that Mayweather's shit talking ass keeps going until he can find some thing else or somehow rebuild Canelo.

Other than setting up a match with Lara, this was probably the only other option...

The undercard looks interesting but if they had a second 154 fight with K9 and Kirkland then that would really make for a good card.
