Apparently, we have deserving and undeserving disasters, Oklahoma senators James Inhofe and Tom Coburn explain

Just a week ago, Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe suggested that President Obama might be impeached over the Benghazi non-scandal. Now, Inhofe must watch as Obama declares Inhofe�s state a disaster area and promises Oklahomans �all the resources they need at their disposal.�

Inhofe, of course, believes his state deserves those resources, even though he voted down aid to Hurricane Sandy victims. On MSNBC, Chris Jansing confronted Inhofe about his calling the Sandy aid bill a �slush fund,� and the brazen right-winger insisted the two issues shouldn�t be linked.

�Let�s look at that, that was totally different,� Inhofe told Jansing. �They were getting things � for instance that was supposed to be in New Jersey, they had things in the Virgin Islands, they were fixing roads there, they were putting roofs on houses in Washington, D.C.; everyone was getting in and exploiting the tragedy taking place. That won�t happen in Oklahoma.�

Inhofe�s answer is too dishonest to fully parse. First of all, there was Sandy damage way beyond New Jersey, including in the Caribbean and in Washington, D.C., too. And Inhofe had different objections to the Sandy bill at the time. In a rambling, hard-to-follow Senate floor speech blocking Sandy aid last December, the Oklahoma conservative objected to the bill�s timing � �There�s always a lot of theater right before Christmas time � We shouldn�t be talking about it right before Christmas� � even though it was already going on two months since the storm ravaged the East Coast.

Inhofe was also exercised by the fact that the Sandy bill included what he said was $28 billion for future disasters. But the climate-change denier was particularly outraged that the bill included $3.5 billion to deal with what he called �global warming,� which led to a long rant against cap-and-trade legislation, and then his floor speech unraveled. (Interestingly, Inhofe�s own press operation put the incoherent speech up on YouTube, as though it was a proud moment for the senator.)

Oklahoma�s other GOP senator, Tom Coburn, brags that he�s going to seek tornado relief � but insist that the funding is �offset� by other cuts to the federal budget. Coburn is proud that he�s being consistent by placing the same conditions on disaster aid to his own state as he�s demanded elsewhere. Consistent, maybe � but also fundamentally cruel.

Especially in the wake of the sequester cuts, the notion that the federal budget is larded with easily eliminated spending is ludicrous. Would Coburn like to see more kids thrown out of Head Start? More seniors losing Meals on Wheels? The federal deficit is shrinking faster than at any time since just after World War II, but Coburn is going to insist that someone, somewhere, must lose their federal help so Oklahoma can get it instead.

There�s something so typical about today�s GOP in the way Inhofe can dismiss comparisons between tornado aid and Sandy aid while Coburn grandstands for his long-term demand that new spending, even on disaster relief, must be �offset� by cuts elsewhere. Meanwhile, the notion that a new disaster relief bill should include funding to cope with future disasters isn�t lauded as common sense, it�s derided as pork. Like Inhofe, Coburn objected to the Sandy bill�s including funding for future disaster relief. (It should be noted that Moore, Okla., Rep. Tom Cole, also a Republican, voted for the Sandy aid bill.)

Just as modern conservatism helped create categories of �deserving� and �undeserving� poor, we now apparently have deserving and undeserving disasters. When tragedy strikes, most Americans tend to want to pull together, but many Republicans look to pull us apart, placing their own constituents� needs above everyone else�s.

IBM Solar Collector to Breakthrough-Collects the Power of 2,000 Suns; Still Keeps it Cool

An IBM-led research team is working on a solar concentrating dish that will be able to collect 80 percent of incoming sunlight and convert it to useful energy as well as avoid damage while taking a big step forward in solar power efficiency. The microchannel water-cooling that kept Aquasar from frying will also cool the hundreds of photovoltaic chips gathering energy at the center, allowing each chip to concentrate the power of 2,000 times the solar energy would normally face. IBM states that the system would be just one-third the cost third of current comparable technologies. Now, that is an added bonus.

IBM claims that it would require only two percent of the Sahara's total area to supply the world's energy needs. The team designed the HCPVT system around a huge parabolic dish covered in mirror facets. A tracking system that moves along with the sun supports and controls the dish. Sunrays reflect off the mirror into receivers containing triple junction photovoltaic chips, each able to convert 200-250 watts over eight hours. Combined hundreds of the chips provide 25 kilowatts of electricity.

Since the microchannels should absorb more than half of the waste heat, while still generating electricity, one can either filter its hot water byproduct into drinkable water or convert into air conditioning by a thermal drive absorption chiller that converts heat through silica gel. Anyways, the collector also promises to do more with sunlight once it has trapped.

To keep the HCPVT safe to operate at a concentration of 2,000 times on average, and up to 5,000 times the power of the sun, the team cooled the entire dish with liquids that are 10 times more effective than passive air methods. In fact, the branched blood supply system of the human body has inspired the direct cooling.

As you might imagine, IBM sees more than just the obvious environmental benefit. Since, the HCPVT is less costly than many other similar installations, a fully developed solar array could be cheap replacement for coal power that delivers greater self-sufficiency-imagine remote towns that need a fresh water supply. The receiver will generate about 25kW of energy.

While Switzerland molds and manufactures tech coolers, the companies on-site provide construction. Through their design, IBM believes they can maintain a cost of less than 10cents per kilowatt-hour.

IBM will first build several prototypes of the dish in Biasca and R�schlikon, Switzerland. The company does not report when we will see production of these collectors beyond several prototypes, but the accomplished work will likely be welcome to anyone unsatisfied with the accessibility of the current solar energy.

Virginia Republicans have chosen firebrand conservative minister E.W. Jackson's for lieutenant governor, the first black candidate the party has nominated for statewide office since 1988.

Jackson provoked the loudest ovation of the day at from the tea party-dominated Republican Party convention in Richmond on Saturday, declaring in an impassioned speech, "I am not an African-American, I am an American!"He won the nomination on the fourth ballot over six rivals. As the only black candidate, he becomes the first black Republican nominee since the party nominated Maurice Dawkins in 1988.

Jackson heads a nondenominational church in Chesapeake and credits his religious background for his shift from the Democratic Party. His first GOP bid for office came last year when he lost the U.S. Senate nomination to former Sen. George Allen.

While Jackson came in fourth place in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Virginia with less than 5 percent of the vote, he won accolades in the conservative movement for his new video comparing Democrats to salve masters.

While speaking to talk show host Janet Mefferd, Jackson claimed that his video is part of a larger move of God to move African American voters against Obama and other Democrats. He told Mefferd that black Christians are �overwhelmingly� supporting his mission to punish the Democrats for backing gay equality, saying that the party is �in rebellion against God� and lost the confidence of Black America.

Unfortunately for Jackson, polls show Obama receiving over 90 percent of the black vote, in line with past elections showing tremendous support for Democratic presidential candidates among African Americans.

In 2011 I weighed in at 354 lbs. I was pre diabetic, always tired and lazy as hell. I went to the doctor and they gave me a prescription for some drug to regulate my sugar levels. That was a turning point for me. I immediately stopped eating refined sugar, flour and pasta- basically anything white. I lost 40 lbs within 6 mos. I then started juicing which worked well. Over the course of the next year I shed another 40-50 lbs. I was on a roll. I was in the 270 range when I hit a plateau in late 2012, so I started to hit up the gym. I got down to 262. By this time I was like oh well Ill just keep doing what I'm doing. This girl at work approached me in September 2012 telling me about Herbalife. She gave me the spill about it being the number 1 nutrition company in the world. I checked it out. Just looked like another MLM company so i blew it off. Over the next few months I pretty much watched her loose 50 lbs with no exercise at all. So I gave it a go. I started Feb 4th This year and I have lost 21 lbs, dropped my BMI 3 pts, my body fat % has decreased 7%, Skeletal muscle has increased 4% and reduced my visceral fat by 3 pts.
