Nine of ten times, it's the photographer and not the camera, man.
Get yourself a low-end prosumer DSLR to start yourself off.

If you wait for the right time of day, and with some tweaking of your camera, this has potential to be a fantastic B&W picture.
Nice photos.

At the very end of the tunnel, you should have a figure (model) to direct the viewer's a attention to some kinda focal point. Also, wait right before sunset (that 15 min. period where there's that golden sunset) using a filter to bring out more detail. Shoot the picture at jpeg fine or raw w/ an f-stop of f-8, high shutter speed to catch (125+) the waves or a very love shutter speed (1/8 of a second or lower) to give the waves the dreamy affect. Use a tripod for both shots. Desaturate to B&W and increase contrast in photoshop for the b&w pic.

http://i31.tinypic.com/2n03nd0.jpgThat looks much better.
A slow shuter speed and an ND filter will give you these kinds of shot

nice. Did you use HDR?
The water is a little blown out... but otherwise, nice tweaks.

Maybe it's the eye of the beholder...but I actually like the first one better. What changes did you make? Looked like you just brightened it??
Anyways, what is a ND filter? Those other 2 pics look awesome. Did you take those? Great job if you did!

I friend of mine took those pics in florida and those are not HDRs.
ND filter is used to reduce the amount of light that can pass through the lens. With the pic above, you have to use a slow shutter speed to get the blurry water. Without the ND filter the sky would be blown out long shutter speed. The ND filter solves that problem by letting less light in to correctly expose the sky.
