Go to Walmart I bought a 2 pound container of whey protein for around $20. I usually add whey protein, 13 cubes of ice, 1 Banana, 1/4 cup of blueberries, 1 5000mg vitamin c pill, and a One a Day into the blender .

but as far as a homemade brew.. i would check out bodybuilding.com
i like isopure too and it is expensive.
try ON whey.. its about 15 dollars and is as good. i like isopure cause it has a shitload of vitamins and 0% carbs, but i'm about to try syntha6 when my ON and Isopure supply run out.

I'm in agreement with you.
Raw egg whites mixed with some fillers is about the best you can do. And you have to be careful what you choose for fillers for absorption reasons. Not everything is supposed to be digested with protein.
And if you're working out, egg whites will be a part of your meal intake anyway.
I must ask why though. You should only be using protein shakes for only up to 2 of your 6 meals if you're doing 6. Are you tired of the taste or tired of spending the money?

I use Biochem Sports Whey Protein. I stumbled across it in Whole Foods. Its not the cheapest stuff on the market, but it has probably the best taste and it mixes the smoothest out of all that i have tried. Its only 100 calories, 4 grams of carbs, 0 cholesterol and 20grams of protein per serving.

Thats what I run with. I make my own protein bars and protein pudding with Optimum Nutrition.
Homemade Protein Bar recipe
1/2 cup quick oats (I use regular with no problems)
1 1/2 cup chocolate protein powder
1/4 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk powder
1/2 cup seedless raisins
1/2 cup Almonds (optional)
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and add enough water to make a stiff dough
--you will have to get your hands dirty to mix it up; it's sticky.
Spray an 8x8 inch cake pan with Pam and press in dough evenly.
Refrigerate a few hours to harden, then cut into 8 - 12 bars, depending on requirements.
Wrap bars in plastic wrap & store in fridge.
You can adjust to your portion needs by cutting into larger or smaller bars.
I cut mine into 8 bars and that works out to approx:
28.5g protein
22.5g carbs
6g fat
245 calories
I cant find my protein pudding recipe but whenI do I'll post it.

for protein bars i still go with pure protein bars.. best tasting imo 32g of protien
Trader Joes has healthy shakes for like 70% less than that piece of shit GNC does. No experimental chemicals either. They also have healthy weight gain shakes for cheap.

Best bet is to stick with the protein powders around $50 and a little less because like others stated: you get what you pay for, plus if you substitute with other items you will probably end up spending more money and getting less of what is offered in the protein shakes, plus less results IMO.

Isopure is not exactly the cheapest shyt at gnc bro..So seeing as you have different types of protien with different release times, it all depends on when you take it and what are you using the protien for..? Isopure for example is hydrolyzed whey, basically it's gonna be absorbed at a faster rate than normal whey, best if used right after a work out for max results; then you have casien protien, which is released very slowly and best if used at night to prevent catabolism. Honestly I recomend you to down-grade your brand to something cheaper like GNC or ON; I use MUSCLE JUICE its a weight gainer protien shake. Remember if you do decide to use the stuff out of your kitchen its 1 gram of protien per 1 lb of body weight or 2 grams per every kg. Good luck

The BSN dessert is great if you're a woman but Syntha 6 is ideal for men. It has a sustained release whey protien formula of 12 hrs. Vitamin Shoppe sells it for $32. True Mass by BSN is for mass building. Be careful of gaining a belly taking True Mass.
Hey, all of this advice is ok if you're a beginner. I've been working out since 14 and got into sports on all levels including college (excluding pro). You don't need all that stuff that they're saying to get. Go to Vitamin Shoppe and ask for BodyTech vanilla whey protein for $23. Virtually no fat and good protein. Remember, if you want to keep muscles, you have to take in the same amount of protein as your body weight. To get bigger, you have to increase that total. Hence, 240 pounds = 240 grams daily. Vitamin Shoppe gets the products from the leading manufacturers and is able to sell it cheaper since it's their product in their store. Vitamin Shoppe is the leader in dietary, fitness and health products far less expensive than other retailers like GNC. I compared prices today and proved that. Plus they got a free membership where you get a point towards every dollar spent. I spent $4000 last year and I'm getting back $260 in store credit. The sales are always great. I'm 240 pounds of solid muscles at 6'4" due to serious working out and that vanilla Bodytech protein. If you want to get serious, you may want to get an anabolic formula such as Leukic or Leukodrol which targets muscle cells. Don't worry, it aint steroids or testosterone enhancement. Just cycle that stuff so your body won't get used to it. The reps at vitiman shoppe are good at advising customers. If you want, email me and I'll get you on a program that is budgetable.

I mean, I got my own recipes that I like, but the protein powder I use... not trying to spend TOO MUCH money, but I ain't trying to buy cheap shit either... AND, I'm trying to find something with decent consistency and taste so I don't waste my money. I've tried EAS Myoplex and absolutely hated it. I'm currently using GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein and I like the consistency and taste. Can someone tell me if it's some crap, or if you've had good results with it? Smart choice. But go for the $23 one with splendid which surprisingly tastes better than the $33 version. That's pretty much what I use and I also use Syntha 6 for sustained release casein protein. 94 servings from the BodyTech and vanilla is delicious. Mix with water instead of milk and it'll be less fat, not as thick and easier to desolve.

Jane and Finch:
Tried your recipe with some variation last night- turned out great! I added a little unsweetened organic applesauce instead of plain water for texture and that made it a little soft so I baked it for 20 minutes to dry it a bit.
Another thing instead of laying it flat and cutting it into bars, I used a muffin pan with parchment paper cups- this way it was already portioned and the paper can be used to make wrapping and transporting easier. You can still break it up if you need a smaller piece.
Thanks.

that protein i bought doesn't taste all that hot, but if you add some vanilla syrup (2 tablespoons) OR a banana and a few packs of splenda or equal and you've got a tasty drink.

certain processes that make protein shakes effective can't really be duplicated on the consumer end (such as isolating whey, instantizing the shake, etc....). If you are going to spend money on any facet of fitness nutrition, this is one of them. It's not really practical to do otherwise.

I personally just plug my nose and it's cool. Adding all the extra sugar, albeit in the form of fruit, defeats the purpose in many ways. The only feasible time to take a shake with all the extra sugar is post workout when glycogen levels have been depleted and something with a high GI (glycemic index) is needed. For everyday drinking, it's ideal to take it straight from the container

this dude speaks the truth..carbs are needed by your body for fuel , so the protein can serve it's intended purpose of building new muscle. Without adequate carbs your body would feed on the protein. Of course if you take an excess of carbs or worse, don't exercise, then you will get fat.

On the real, listen to everybody and just go out and BUY SOME FUCKING WHEY PROTEIN POWDER. If you want, for extra benefits, you can throw in other shit to boost it. For example, I mix my shit with oatmeal, peanut butter, water, and eggs. Bananas, strawberries, milk, etc... are also popular additions among people. Fuck, I've even heard about people that mix their shakes with sardines for the extra protein. All in all, there's no fucking escaping the fact that you HAVE to buy protein powder.
